KALISIA's founding members (Brett - guitar & vocals -,
Laurent P. - keyboards- and Loïc - guitar -) met in May 1994 when they
joined local band INSANITY's drummer looking for musicians. But quickly,
because of musical divergences, they left him to form their own band. In
August, they were joined by Laurent B. - drums -, formerly in
Techno-Thrash band RANDOMIZE TIMER, then by Thibaut - bass -(from Toulon's Death
Metal band BLOODY RITUAL) two months later, scealing the current
line-up of KALISIA.
The band immediatly started to play a kind of Death Metal both melodic
and progressive (hence the length of some songs), often described as a
combination of DREAM THEATER and CYNIC, where the lyrics had a great
importance. They rehearsed in a small village, Laroque, near Ganges, a
town at about 50 kms from Montpellier. They look back to this time with
great pleasure : "When we rehearsed, we left in the morning, rehearsed,
then went on the side of the river to eat (and feed the ducks !), and
then rehearsed again. It was really cool, even if we usually rehearsed
for many hours, something like 8 hours a day. A real expedition, like
going to the country to have a picnic ! :-)"
After a year of existence, KALISIA entered the studio to record their
first demo, Skies. Duplicated to 500 copies, this demo tape got quickly
sold out, thanks to a great promotional work realized by the band.
KALISIA has been contacted in November 95 by the french label ADIPOCERE to
release the demo in CD in a 1500 Copies Limited Edition, and it's in
November of the following year that this one was finally released. The
reviews were extremely good, and the band was elected 10th best french
band in the Readers' Referendums of Hard Rock Magazine and Hard N' Heavy
Magazine. It is to notice that only two other metal bands were in the
poll : LOUDBLAST (of course, in both !) and MASSACRA (in HRM) and SUP
(in HNH). We can say that being elected 3rd best french metal band after
only one demo tape and a CD reedition of it two months before the
referendum is very encouraging, and surprised the band a lot !
KALISIA was offered many gigs but only played very few times. Among the
bands they played with, we can name EMPEROR, MY DYING BRIDE, ELDRITCH,
SAMAEL, THERION, CREMATORY, LAKE OF TEARS... For more informations

The band also aroused the interest of several french and foreign
labels, even if no decision has been taken by now, KALISIA is concentrating
on the composition of an ambitious concept album composed of a sole
piece subdivised in many parts. The drummer of the band now works in Paris,
but the band composes on a computer and rehearses about twice a month
(even less sometimes) with him in Nîmes. The band also found a female
vocalist for some lead and background vocals in the person of Corinne
Pontet. The writing progress is about to reach its end, and the band hopes
to record it in summer 2004 for a release at the end of 2004 -
beginning 2005, at last, 9 years after the first demo...
