The band started up in the far 1993, for an idea of the drummer STEFANO RUMICH. The goal behind that was to merge the classic death-metal sound with some experimental elements, taking as inspiration sources bands such as Pestilence and Voivod. The first chosen moniker was "SUBTRACTION"; the band consisted of 4 members, among them Francesco (vocals/guitar) and Gabriele (lead guitar). Subtraction played in some gigs and recorded a demotape named "ETERNAL"(1994). After that the moniker was changed in "OBSCENITY", and old bass player was substituted with a new one. The band became locally famous due to the numerous concerts made. The second demotape "PIERCED FLESH" was recorded.From this production, you can notice that the sound that the band proposed has started to deviate to the standards introduced by Cannibal Corpse and Suffocation. In 1996 the band recorded their third demotape "BEYOND"; with it they came in touch with a label , but without reaching the desired results.In the meantime, the band's name has been changed to the present and definitive "KARNAK". The band increased its notoriety and public appreciation by mean of the live performances made in the near Slovenia beside already famous bands like the german Pyogenesis. The first self-produced CD, titled "PERVERTED" and contaning 8 songs, was mixed and recorded at Gabriele Ravaglia's FEAR STUDIOS in 1997. The style proposed in this work is a technodeath grind quite close to Suffocation's moods, but there were the first appearances of keyboards, providing some melodic episodes.No contact was looked for this work, because of the deep changes that were occurring within the band. The new idea was to merge the acquired technodeath grind style with morbid and macabre atmospheres generated by the intense use of keyboards. For 4 month, the band composed all the 8 songs that will be recorded in November 1998 at the Fear Studios in Ravenna and put together to form the second album title "Melodies Of Sperm Composed". In the beginning of 1999, 150 selfpaid copies of that were distributed. The CD got good responses from extimators of extreme music that soon realized the originality of the work. From all the songs you can identify a lot of extra influences (death, black, grind, jazz, etc...).
