At the end of 2003, came along a band that would show
what pure heavy metal music is about. This band was named KATANA.
KATANA is also the name of the sword of an ancient warrior from JAPAN called
SAMURAI. The band was born through the efforts of vocalist Sandro
Seixas, after leaving a 70's hard rock band callesd KÚRIA, where he sang for
13 years, because of musical direction disagreements, Sandro wanted to
take part of a new innovating and heavy project.
This kind of project required the right partners and he needed to find
them, something very difficult to do. After watching a workshop of a
well known brazilian heavy metal guitar player, Sandro asked a friend
about a guitar player, in fact “THE guitar player”, his friend answered
“the guitar player” was right there and introduced each other. His name
was Davi Piangers and since the very first moments of their talk a huge
similarity in musical preferences and ideas showed what they would like
to make: A GREAT METAL BAND.
Davi immediately introduced drummer Elias Frenzel, they both played in
a metal band called CASTELO FORTE, soon, the bass player André "Rhoda"
joined them, André played in CASTELO FORTE along with them too. They
started working hard on the project and very soon, the “EYES IN THE DARK”
EP have been made, full of heavy metal music and lyrics about what we
are doing to ourselves and our planet.
KATANA had an innovating song writing process. Davi wrote the songs
based on guitar riffs, then Sandro wrote the lyrics and vocal melodies.
The band had never rehearsed the songs before and got into the studio to
make the record, rehearsing only after the whole recording process.
Having no ideas about the results, they made “EYES IN THE DARK”, the
band's first cd. “EYES IN THE DARK” brought KATANA to all heavy metal
fans in Brazil and some countries of South America and Japan, where
KATANA's powerfull music can already be heard.
