When Ron Keel laid Steeler to rest in March 1984 he decided to put together an entirely new band that could fulfill his vision of the ultimate hard rock / heavy metal band. Several line-up changes took place before the classic, stable line-up was established. On April 27th, 1984, they did their first show at Perkin's Palace in Pasadena, California, in front of 1500 metal fans. In July they entered the Prairie Sun Studios in Northern California to record "Lay Down The Law". The recording landed the band a major label deal and Gene Simmons from Kiss as producer of their major label debut. The band toured with bands like Triumph, Loudness, Accept, Joan Jett and Queensr˙che. Between 1987 and 1989 there were a lot of tension, disagreements, drug problems, line-up changes, contract disputes and management changes taking place. In 1989 they finally had the stability needed to record the final Keel album "Larger Than Live". After the recording the band split up. In 1998 the band reunited temporarily at a recording studio in Phoenix to complete work on "Keel VI: Back In Action". Guitarist Marc Ferrari pursued a music degree, played guitar in both Wayne's World movies and has played in well over a hundred other movies. Second guitarist Bryan Jay was planning on putting together an aggressive metalcore band with former Slayer drummer Jon Dette and Testament bassist Greg Christian in 1999 but decided to put his plans on hold to also pursue a degree in music.
