The roots of the Kidneythieves dates back to 1996, when
Bruce M. Somers met Free Dominguez through a mutual friend at the News Room
Cafe in Los Angeles.
Somers was working as a music composer for films at the time, and soon
he had enough money to build himself a studio, then the two began to
collaborate.
In 1998 the band was signed to Push Records and they released their
debut album Trickster with little support from their label and little
promotion at all. That same year they also recorded a cover of Patsy
Cline's
"Crazy" which was featured on the Bride of Chucky Soundtrack.
While things began to pick up, the label soon fell into financial
problems and eventually went out of business leaving the band on their own.
After much patience, the band soon caught the attention of Extasy
Records who signed to band and helped them release their 2002 album,
Zerospace, which also featured the song "Before I'm Dead" which appreared on
the Queen of the Damned Soundtrack.
The band then began touring with a full line-up consisting of
Dominguez(Vocals), Somers(Guitar), Chris Schleyer(Guitar),
Christian"Fijit"Dorris(Bass), and Sean Sellers(Drums, he also performed all the Drums on the
band's Zerospace album).
In 2003, the band decided to re-release their debut cd. The re-release
was issued with extras tracks, a DVD, and was digitally remastered, and
was dubbed TricksterReprocess.
While the band started to begin work on their third studio album while
in a California studio, they witnessed Deja Vu, as their label Extasy
records folded due to "impractical profit estimates", leaving the band
in the cold.
During this time, the band was put on hold, hoping to reunite again,
but the band eventually fell apart as Dominguez went on to pursue a solo
career(releasing her solo debut Freedoming, in 2004), while the
remainder of the band formed Shocknina.
