The American shock rock band Kiss was formed in 1972 by bassist Gene Simmons (of Jewish origin and born Chaim Witz in Haifa, Israel) and guitarist Paul Stanley (born Stanley Eisen) who split up their current band Wicked Lester in order to form the ultimate rock band. Their new band was soon a huge success and they became known worldwide for their intense live shows and their, at that time, unique image with make-up and a pre-glam sound.
In 1974 Kiss did their first major tour throughout the US and Canada where they opened up for bands like Savoy Brown and Manfred Mann. An incredibly successful career would follow and Kiss are undoubtedly one of the most influential bands in the history of modern music despite the fact that I personally despise Gene Simmons and don't find much of their music the least bit interesting.
