The history of the Swedish band Legion starts in late spring 1996. The drummer Thurisaz and vocalist/bassist Trollheim met and decided to form a new band since Thurisaz´ former band Mournful had split up. After a few months they found two guitar players called Tiwaz and Svartz "Svartulv", who had played together for a while. They all had the same urge to start a more brutal black metal band and together they formed the band Tyrant. At this moment the band was more of a hobby and not too seriously meant until the end of 1997 when they first performed live in front of an audience. In November 1997 they entered Studio G. in Grästorp to record a song called "Northern Wisdom" for a compilation CD.
