The Belgian metalcore legion Liar was created in 1995 from the ashes of a band called Wheel of Progress, the name honoring the Rollins Band song bearing the same title. After just 10 rehearsals and a few shows they recorded their debut album "Falls Of Torment" which was released through Goodlife Recordings. In 1996 the band parted ways with their original drummer Raf who reportedly went on to become a professional snowboarder and also played in a punk band called Red Lobster. His replacement was Bert Guillemont of Sektor who joined the band for their "Steel Against Steel" summer tour alongside Blindfold and Congress.
1997 saw the band switching labels from Goodlife to Genet Records who would release the band's sophomore effort "Invictus" in February. Liar played a large number of shows throughout the year and into 1998. Due to family life obligations and taking over his father's business, founding member Josh stepped down in 1999 and Lennart of Firestone joined the fold as their new lead guitarist. The band's third album, "Deathrow Earth", was recorded at the Midas Studios and would see Liar return to Goodlife Recordings. A tour with Earth Crisis and Facedown was completed.
In May 1999 Liar played a gig with death metallers Aborted after which their guitarist Christophe was asked to help them out. Eventually Christophe would part ways with his former act and join Liar full time. After the Easter "Deathrow Europe" tour Lennart decided it was time to quite the band, being temporarily replaced by Firestone's six stringer Ward Duffraimont. After a short search Matthias Halsberghe of Empathy became the new permanent guitarist.
Some time had to be spent putting the new pieces of the band together and writing new material for "Liar's Hell" which was recorded in the winter of 2000 at the CCR Studios and released next year by Germany's upstart metalcore label Alveran Records. In 2002 Liar parted ways with guitarist Matthis who was replaced by Firestone's Ward, the same guy that had already stepped in for live duty prior to him joining. Mid 2005 they found a new home at GSR Music but despite the positive feedback to their 5th full-length album "Murder Manifesto", a series of line-up changes drained the band of energy and in late June 2006 band leader Hans Verbeke announced that Liar was no more.
