In 1983 Jeff Gilbert of Ground Zero Records was producing a compilation album called Northwest Metalfest which was released in March the following year. One of the bands featured were the American punk / thrash metal band Mace with the song "Marching Sacrifice". The track was recorded at Studio One in Seattle, Washington, with producer Tom Bertoldi and it was also featured on the Metal Massacre V compilation the same year. The band then released two full-length albums before splitting up. Guitarist Dave Hillis played an important part in the rise of the Seattle grunge scene and produced both Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam.
