Considering MMD only formed in October 2002 an incredible amount of things came our way. In May 2003 we recorded a 4 track demo, and to get the name MMD around a bit, we put two songs off the demo up on MP3.com and within two weeks the song Severe Facial Reconstruction hit number one on the worldwide Death Metal chart. It was then that MMD had some offers to record a full length CD. Two months later MMD agreed to release our debut album with Retribute Records. With Joe and Alan’s other band Godplayer playing alongside Kataklysm in Glasgow a few months before, a friendship was formed with Kataklysm Guitarist and producer Jean Francois Dagenais, who was more than happy to offer his engineering services for the MMD release. So, in December 2003 JF flew to Scotland and MMD recorded the album in Eden/Red Eye Studios in Clydebank/Scotland. The album was recorded within 1 week and was then taken to Montreal/ Canada to be mixed and mastered.
May 2004 saw the worldwide release of …Start Killing through Retribute Records, the album received a positive response throughout the metal world and was hailed as a great debut album. May 2004 also saw MMD performing at the Maryland Death Festival in the US, which was the first time MMD had ventured overseas so it was a great experience for the band. MMD have since received an invitation to go back and perform at the 2005 Maryland death festival.
June 2004 and Metal Hammer issued a cover mount CD featuring MMD song Scumkiller, propelling the MMD sound to thousands of metal fans and massively helping us to get our name around. Also in June MMD played with Fear Factory at a sold out QMU venue in Glasgow and MMD hope there are many more shows to follow that receive the reaction from a crowd the way we did that night.
