In the beginning Joey DeMaio worked as a bass and pyro technician for Black Sabbath. When Sabbath played in Newcastle City Hall in England he met the original Manowar guitarist Ross "The Boss" who at the time was playing with Shakin Street, a Sabbath cover band. It didn't take long before they formed the band Manowar in the end of 1980 (the place of birth was Auburn, New York, USA) and recorded their legendary debut album "Battle Hymns" which featured a narration by famous actor Orson Welles on the track "Dark Avenger". Since then the band has grown to become one of the biggest metal bands in the world. Manowar is now signed to the German metal label Nuclear Blast and will be releasing a new studio album in the middle of 2002. In early March 2005 Magic Circle Music signed a distribution deal with the German company SPV.
