Marilyn Manson photo
Marilyn Manson was born Brian Warner on January 5th, 1969, in Canton, Ohio. As a child he attended the Heritage Christian School in his home town before his family moved to Florida where Brian started hanging out at Fort Lauderdale's Squeeze Club. He was writing for a local paper in these days and wrote poetry and short stories in his spare time. At Squeeze he read his poetry but was always told that his poetry sucks even though he had a great voice. In 1989 he formed his own band and adopted the moniker Marilyn (from Marilyn Monroe) Manson (from serial killer Charles Manson) since he was planning on writing about his own music in the paper he worked for. The name of the band was Marilyn Manson And The Spooky Kids. Back then they used a drum machine instead of a human drummer. Several line-up changes followed until a steady line-up could be established. After having opened up for Nine Inch Nails in Florida in 1990 Manson presented Trent Reznor with a demo which eventually led to him signing the band to his own label Nothing Records and a long and prosperous relationship. After the release of their debut album in 1994 they went out on the road with Nine Inch Nails and later on Danzig. Manson was also made a ceritified minister in LaVey's Church Of Satan. In 1996 the band played their first shows in Britain.
