Back in 1992 Henrik Flyman was looking for a singer to record a three track MCD with a new band. The band was Moahni Moahna. After a long search he ended up with the superb vocalist and good friend Martin. He had the exact kind of raw power and feeling for melodies required. The fact that both Henrik and Martin were raised upon the same kind of musical influences just made things even more pleasant.
The MCD "Face the Light" recieved great response and a video was aired at the MTV Headbangers Ball. This was beyond the expectations of the band. The next step, to record a full length album, was an easy decision to make. Not quite that easy was the financing. Moahni Moahna had no recorddeal and the grunge- and seattlebands were consuming the rockscene (R.I.P).
1994 the mastertape for the first full length CD was completed.
The album was titled "Temple of Life" and presented, besides the expected hardrock orchestra, a chambre orchestra and a whole bunch of other guys with "untraditional" hardrock instruments.
Again Moahni Moahna got very good international response. The album was released by minor Swedish label SMC Records who licenced the album to JVC Victor Ent. in Asia. Unfortunately, business wasn´t quite as good as the music. SMC stole every last cent from the bands royalty. This made the situation quite difficult for the guys. Now followed a year filled with legal disputes, contract terminations and other kind of inspirational lifedrainers.
However, the band survived and 1996 they recorded their second album "Why". Again great reviews! Top scores in several important music magazines. And again company problems! This time the credit goes to German label Rising Sun wich released both albums in Europe 1997 but still hasn´t payed the band OR GEMA/Ncb their share.
Now Henrik and Martin decided it was time to make a fresh start and with a new band. Not only because of the business related problems but also because they felt it had to be some changes in the band. Moahni Moahna was a good band, but just a bit too experimental. The music had to be focused into ONE direction instead of hundreds. The obvious choice was of course Hard Rock!
In mid 1999 Henrik and Martin started the enjoyable work in writing new material. Inspiration had never been kinder. The result: 10 classic Hard Rock tracks! The following year a band was formed and the songs were recorded. Several companies showed their interest but this time the guys were understandably careful with their contract signatures. In the very beginning of 2001 they made their choice. Intromental Management was exactly what they had been looking for. The contracts are now confidently signed and everybody´s happy.
This is pretty much the history until today. It is here the exiting journey of writing new history beginns.
The big difference from before is that the music is more genuin and powerful. All the magic are still there but this time it´s pure Hard Rock... and the name is ZooL!!!
Tommy Rehn is a brother of Christian Rehn (Abyssos, Evergrey etc.). Their father Jan-Eric Rehn was a pop idol in the 60s when he played the guitar and sang in a band called "The Panthers" which was very popular back then.
