Mundanus Imperium photo
The Norwegian band Mundanus Imperium started out as a black metal band but as they released their debut album they had transformed into a progressive power metal band with some minor black metal influences. The band was originally formed in the autumn of 1994 by Lars Wiik and Bent E. Holm under the name Nattefall. In March 1996 they recorded their first demo called "Ode To The Nightsky" which was well received and also released as a mini cd by Velvet Music in May 1997. By now they had changed their name to Mundanus Imperium. Two of the tracks from the mini album was also released on the compilation "The Rape Of The Holy Trinity" on Hot Records. A contract was now signed with the Italian label Avantgarde Music and Jørn Lande and Petter J. Thuve were added to the band's line-up. Their next album was recorded in August 1997 and March 1998 with help from Ronnie Lé Tekrö. For better distribution the album was licensed to be released through the German label Nuclear Blast later the same year. The album was entitled "The Spectral Spheres Coronation" and was nominated for best hard rock album in the Norwegian Music Award show. The prize however went to Covenant for their album "Nexus Polaris". The band is probably no more since the vocalist Jørn Lande is now involved with other more successful bands such as Ark and Masterplan.
