Mystic Circle desribe their music themselves as dark satanic metal. The band was formed in the end of 1992 by Beelzebub and the former drummer. They released three demo tapes called "Dark Passion" (1994), "Von Kriegern und Helden" (1995) and "Die Götter der Urväter" (1996) which were distributed by black metal mailorders and sold more than 1000 copies each. Last Episode, on of the distributors, offered the band a record deal. In advance Mystic Circle released two EP's entitled "Schwarze Magie" and "Kriegsgötter" which gave them the status of the leading underground band in Germany. Through Last Episode the band released three full-length albums, supported by eight European tours together with Dimmu Borgir, Marduk, Cannibal Corpse, Gorgoroth, Old Mans Child and Immortal. They also performed on the big open air festivals in Europe such as Wacken (1999), Mind Over Matter and the 2000 Iron Maiden Open Air in Strasbourg. The final release on Last Episode was the compilation disc "Kriegsgötter 2" which included cover tunes and old demo tracks. The band was then signed to Massacre Records in May 2000 and on March 26th, 2001, they released "The Great Beast" which tops the previous releases easily. This album was followed by a 30 dates European tour with Marduk, starting in Dublin, Ireland, on the 21st of March and ending in Essen, Germany, on the 23rd of April.
In late February 2005 the band signed a deal with Dockyard 1, the new company formed by Dirk Putzke, Christine Stephan (both ex-Sanctuary/Noise Records) and Piet Sielck (IRON SAVIOR).
