Band biography
Nest photo
Nest was formed in summer '99 with the idea of making acoustic and ambient music to reflect the world of old fables, and folk tales. The idea of doing this had already been cooking in A.T.'s head for a couple of years, but it hadn't been realized until this point.

Between summer '99 and spring 2000 many songs were written. Four of these were recorded and released as Nest's first demo "Fabled Lore". Only the most worthwhile tunes were released and the rest were left to wait and mature.

In the time between summer and winter 2000 the composing and recording of new tunes continued. A Polish label, THUNDRA RECORDS, a subsidiary of FLUTTERING DRAGON, offered to release them on a split CD with ISAFJORD, a Norwegian melodic bm band. The split CD was released in autumn 2001. A.T. handled all of the visual artwork for both bands.

During the next couple of years new songs were constantly being composed. Nest also singed a deal with a Bulgarian label, CORVUS RECORDS, who released Nest's first full-length CD in the beginning of 2003. Once again, A.T. cooked up the visual artwork.

2003 also sees Nest performing its first ever live gig. Something that seemed unbelievable just a couple of years ago. Here it begins - expect more live shows to come.

INSPIRATION:
A hidden pool amidst the woods where the otters come to play, an owl's faint call echoing through the woods, sparkling waterfalls and vast snowcovered landscapes where the reindeer folk and wolves hold their domain. These are only some of the things with the atmosphere Nest strives to capture.

As you can see, nature - our wondrous Godgiven playground, fantasy and more precisely fables are the fluid that courses through Nest's veins. Old folk and animal tales as well as the works of brothers Grimm and Tolkien, to name a few, have been the roots of great inspiration. But even though Nest serves as a vessel to express these things important to us, an equally important reason for Nest's existence is to bring enjoyment to all who should find it in athmospheres brought forth by acoustic, ambient and even somewhat folky music.

KANTELE:
The core of Nest's music is the kantele, a traditional Finnish string instrument that originates from over 2000 years ago. It belongs to the class of horizontal harps and usually has five to twelve strings, sometimes even thirty or more. A fifteen stringed version is used in Nest, since it still has that quite rough ancient sound which the ones designed for classical music (with 30 or more strings) lack.

MEMBERS:
At the moment Nest consists of A. Tolonen and T. Saxell. A.T. plays the kantele, does some vocals and is responsible for the visual art. T.S. handles the vocals and bass.

NEWS 2004

The new split with AGALLOCH will be a 10" vinyl. It will feature a brand new Nest track "Last vestige of old joy" and a new acoustic song by Agalloch "The Wolves of Timberline". It's artwork is currently being finished. No release date has been set yet.

A. Tolonen played the kantele on the upcoming 3rd album ?Illusion?s Play? of Finnish Funeral Doomsters SHAPE OF DESPAIR. He considers it an honour of the highest caliber.
