Band biography

Nocturnus was an American death metal band that formed in Tampa, Florida, in June 1987. They recorded one demo which lead to a deal with the British label Earache Records. Their debut album "The Key" went on to seel more than 50 000 copies worldwide. In 1991 they also toured Europe together with Bolt Thrower and later on they went on an American tour with Napalm Death and Godflesh. They were perhaps not entirely original by the standards of today but back then they were unique in their way of using atmospheric keyboard passages in death metal. Another thing that made them different from most other bands within their genre was their use of science fiction lyrics. The band broke up in 1993, reformed in 2000 but finally announced its breakup in April or May of 2002.
