Portuguese death metal act Painstruck was formed in August 1997, originally known as Breed-Machine, by frontman Nuno Loureiro, drummer Paulo Lafaia, bassist Alexandre Afonso and guitarist Ricardo Correia. Late December 1998 saw them record their debut demo in their rehearsal room. In April 1999 they began working on their debut album "Aggressive Ways To Pacify" at the Rec'N'Roll Studios with producer Luis Barros of Tarantula. Soon after a deal was signed with the Portuguese label Paranoid Records and in June 2001 the album was finally released.
Following the release Painstruck undertook a tour throughout Portugal and Spain where they also supported metalcore veterans Biohazard on two occasions. In the summer of 2002 the band performed at Ermal, on of the largest Portuguese festivals, alongside Slipknot and Dimmu Borgir. In March the band had also finished recording their sophomore effort "A Whole New Perception" which was released in October. In 2003 the band supported Stone Sour at two shows and they also played the Ermal festival once more.
In early June 2007 the band took part in the Summer Blast Fest tour throughout Spain and Portugal together with Caliban and Omnium Gatherum.
