| Band biography |
This is and it will always be the purpose of this group of persons, musically manifesting through melody, rage and melancholy.
In a dark and heavy musical stream, that does not escape the inevitable labels, Painted Black play in between the Doom/Death Metal and Gothic Metal genres, showing the melodic and harsh music and the sentimental and sombre lyric characteristic of these musical genres.
The creative process began in 1998. By that time, Daniel (vocals) and Luís (guitar) gave the first step in the fulfilling of their wish of creating a band, and since that step, from where the project My Sad Soul was born, the since long expected evolution took place, both musically and individually, until 2001 when Painted Black was finally formed.
Since 2001 and still nowadays there were always great difficulties in finding members to solidify the band and through a lot of search, some attempts and ruptures, the band remains with the two original members, Telmo in the bass guitar, Rui in the drums and Miguel in lead/rythm guitar.
The band's live performances, some of them in their hometown, Tortosendo (5km from Covilhã, Portugal), another in the 1 st Rock Festival of Teixoso and in the 1st Rock Festival of Benquereça and yet the recording of a studio theme, were great steps in the band's evolution and consolidation, also giving them some projection out of the rehearsal room.
In the year of 2005 the band finally recorded their debut demo/promo CD, containing 6 songs, spanning
the various influences in their sound. From atmospheric to heavy guitars, from serene sounds to harsh
vocals, the band tried to show elements of all their characteristics.
Yet the band struggles to continue alive throughout the doom with the same impetus from the first days.
Editor's comment: In late December 2006 their new demo MCD "Verbo" was ready for pressing and it was released a month later.
