Prong formed in June 1986 in NYC by CBGB's soundman Tommy Victor
and former Swans' drummer Ted Parsons and free lance bassist Mike
Kirkland. Taking thrash metal, stripping it down and making the lyrics more
articulate, Prong debuted with the hardcore inspired "Primitive
Origins" in 1987. They signed to epic in 1990 and released their two best
records "Beg to Differ" and "Prove You Wrong", which took thrash and
mixed it with staccatto, start/stop rhythms and occassional bursts of
speed. The title track to beg to differ was even a mainstay on Mtv's
HeadBanger's Ball. For "Prove You Wrong", ex Flotsam and Jetsam
Bassist replaced Kirkland. But this only lasted a short time because ex
Killing Joke and Murder Inc. bassist Paul Raven was drafted in for their
most commercial record "The Cleansing" in 1994. Prong has gone somewhat
underground since then but continue releasing records into the next
century.
