One of Holland's most brutal US style death metal bands Pyaemia started back in 1995 as a fivesome, but soon found their steady base with the four members and high school friends Joel Sta (vocals/guitar), Anton de Wit (guitar), Frank Stijnen (bass) and Robbert Vrijenhoek (drums).
Pyaemia's first release Cranial Blowout (MCD, 1997) already blew away the critics and the band signed a deal with the Spanish label Repulse Records.
Due to financial problems at Repulse they splitted ways soon afterwards, but luckily for the group the US based label Unique Leader, owned by two members of the infamous metal band Deeds of Flesh, pulled them in almost immediately.
Early 2001 saw the release of Pyaemia's first full length album Cerebral Cereal, which is still celebrated as one of the best death metal records from the Netherlands ever and can easily compete with US brutal death metal products itself. Cerebral Cereal, recorded in the Excess Studios in Rotterdam, marked the start of an international career for the guys.
That same year, Pyaemia participated in the Bloodletting North America Part II Tour with Monstrosity, Deeds of Flesh and Sabbatic Feast. They played all over Europe with their Belgian friends of Aborted and Reclusion from Sweden and did shows and open air festivals with bands such as Illdisposed, Grave, Vader, Malevolent Creation, Disavowed and Inhume.
Unfortunately, Frank decided to leave Pyaemia in March 2002. Patrick Boleij of Severe Torture took over the bass for as long as needed and got to do the Gutting Europe Part II Tour with Pyaemia, together with, again, Deeds of Flesh and label mates Disgorge (US).
Shortly after that, Pyaemia recruited Marc Wormmeester (ex-Bloodcum) as their new bassplayer. With him, they are frantically working on new material at the moment, as they hope to bring out a new album in the winter of 2004.
Meanwhile, they'll be joining the Bloodletting North America Part IV tour in November/December 2003 with Gorgasm, Severed Savior and Spawn of Possession.
The band officially split up in December 2005 as there were no positive changes in sight in the recovery of drummer Robbert from a sustainted wrist injury.
