The early beginning of Pyramaze took form in the winter of 2001/2002, when the 24 year old guitarist Michael Kammeyer left his former band, Damion, with whom, Michael had recorded two demo CD's, but at that time the band hadn't received the success they wanted outside of the local scene in Aabenraa, Denmark, so for Michael it was time for a change. With Pyramaze, Michael now had the idea of writing a complete album of own material in the melodic power metal style. In the summer of 2002 Michael found himself with enough material for the debut album, and decided to find the ideal musicians for his band.

He didn't have to look far to find the first 2 persons, as local drummer Morten Gade and bassist Niels Kvist immediately jumped on the opportunity to join Michael in his quest. The next person to be enrolled in the Pyramaze line-up, was the American keyboardist Jonah Weingarten, who Michael had met over the internet. The new-born band began rehearsing the material on each side of the Atlantic Ocean - Michael, Morten and Niels in Denmark, and Jonah in the US. Demo's were sent back and forth and phone conferences were held each night, in order to keep track with the process and exchange creative ideas. With a band around him, Michael booked the studio for the recordings of the debut album. To take care of the sound, the well-known producer Jacob Hansen was chosen - a man with a long list of fantastic productions behind him, ranging from Withering Surface and Illdisposed to Manticora and Ancient.

In January 2003, Jonah flew to Denmark and the band began recording the CD. After having laid down all the tracks besides the vocals, producer Jacob decided to send a couple of MP3's to his long time friends at Intromental Management - a Danish metal agency, who already had worked together with Jacob on numerous recordings, plus being the managers for Jacob's own band, Invocator. The guys at Intromental fell totally in love with the Pyramaze material, and gave Michael a call. After a couple of phone conversations, the two parties, Pyramaze and Intromental, decided to join forces, and the band suddenly found themselves being promoted professionally, with all it encloses (including a certain "responsibility" to take themselves more seriously and believe in what they were doing). One of the things that came with the signing to Intromental, was the decision that instead of having Michael sing the vocals on the album, (which originally had been the plan), it would be wiser to find a really fantastic pro-singer. Someone who not only would fit the material, but also be able to lift it to even higher levels. And that singer was soon found in American vocalist extraordinaire Lance King, known from such great power and progressive metal acts as Balance Of Power, Mattson, King’s Machine and Gemini.

And so Pyramaze became the band you have now - a fantastic unit of professional musicians, creating some of the best melodic power metal these days. A beautiful blend of bands like Iced Earth, Kamelot and Iron Maiden, with a nice progressive edge to it, and a bunch of really talented musicians.
