Band biography

RAGNAROK was formed in August 1994 when Jontho P, and Jerv left their previous band called THOTH. In this band Jontho P. played the guitar and the synth and Jerv played the bass and did some of the singing. The third person in the band who called himself "Possessed Evil" played the drums and did the most of the singing. But after a while, Jontho and Jerv decided to leave the band because of problems with Possessed Evil, and because they didn't had faith in this band. So after a while Jontho and Jerv decided to start a two-man band, but that didn't work out. Finally they formed RAGNAROK together with "Rym" and "Thyme". And now the line-up was Thyme(vocal), Rym(guitar), Jerv(bass) and Jontho(drums).

When they started to rehearse in late August 1994 they made the following songs: "Pagan Land", "From The Darkest Deep", "Hammerens Slag", "Et Vinter Land I Nord" and "Ragnarok". These songs were recorded in February 1995 as their debut-demo called "Pagan Land". After spreading this demo to different labels, zines and radiostations, they finally got hooked up by Metalion of HEAD NOT FOUND records. Since the deal that HNFrec. came up with was a good deal, RAGNAROK agreed to sign.

In May 1995 Ragnarok went to X-ray studio in Sarpsborg to record their debut-album called "Nattferd" (which means "A Journey Thru' The Night"). The Nattferd-album consists of the debut demo "Pagan Land" + 4 new songs called: "Age Of Pride", "Daudens Natt", "The Norse Winter Demon" and "Minner Om Svunnne Tider" + outro. This album was released in November 1995.

After a while Ragnarok decided to change label but then HNFrec. came up with a even better deal so Ragnarok stayed on HNF for two more albums. Two years later the follow up, "Arising Realm" was released, where Shagrath, amongst others, joined in on session synth. This album consists of 10 songs + intro and outro and was released in May 1997. They sold 4000 copies in two months.

The third album called "Diabolical Age" will be released in January 2000 also under Head Not Found records. It contains 8 new songs and is their most brutal album so far. Fans of the brutal and aggressive will worship this album, although there are some melodic parts on the album as well. When it comes to the lyrics, "Diabolical Age" has the most satanic lyrics yet delivered from Ragnarok. After the recording of "Diabolical Age" vocalist Thyme has left and was replaced by Astaroth. Another change in the line up was the addition of a second guitarist in Sander. But now kicked and replaced by Lord Arcamous who will also do the vocals since Astaroth has also been kicked.

Ragnarok has not been seen on stage too often. They have done some gigs with bands like Old Man's Child, Siebenbrgen, Atanatos etc., and in the summer of '98 they performed on the Under The Black Sun festival in Leipzig (Germany). The band has planned to take "Diabolical Age" on the road, and a tour is planned for late winter/early summer year 2000.
