SACRAMENTUM was formed by Nisse Karlén (vocals/guitar) in the summer of 1990 under the name of Tumulus. After a short period of time Anders Brolycke joined in on guitar and an apocalyptic seed of creative outburst had started to grow. The first official recording were made in the end of 1992 and just before the release of the demotape called "Sedes Impiorum" the band name was changed to SACRAMENTUM.

In February 1994 SACRAMENTUM went to Unisound Studio and recorded the self-financed five track promo-CD "Finis Malorum", which was re-released by Adipocere Records about one year later. "Finis Malorum" established the band firmly in the world-wide black/death metal underground scene. People got their eyes open for SACRAMENTUM and realised that the band was a force to reckon with.

During 1994 SACRAMENTUM went through some line-up changes and Nicklas Rudolfsson (now also in Runemagick, Swordmaster and Deathwitch) joined in on drums and Nisse shifted from six to four strings. With this three-piece line-up SACRAMENTUM went back to Unisound in June 1995 to record their full-length debut. It was entitled "Far Away From the Sun" and wasn't released by Adipocere Records until June 1996. Once again the response was almost undivided positive and the band strengthened their position as one of the top Swedish black/death metal acts. Just after the release of "Far Away From the Sun" it was time to face the audience so SACRAMENTUM went on a European tour with Ancient Rites, Bewitched and Enthroned.

In spring 1997 SACRAMENTUM signed with Century Media Records. The second full-length album was recorded in June 1997 in Los Angered Recordings with supreme assistance of the King Diamond guitarist Andy La Roque. The finished result was entitled "The Coming of Chaos" and was released in September 1997. Once again it was time to spread some chaos all over Europe. This time SACRAMENTUM went on tour with their labelmates Old Man's Child and Rotting Christ.

The music of SACRAMENTUM could be described as both melodic and aggressive. SACRAMENTUM is successfully trying to combine the intense rawness of death metal with the solemn cold darkness of black metal. The lyrics are held on a personal level. They are imbued with a dark, misanthropic, apocalyptic and fateful sensation that does not leave anybody unaffected.

In September 1998 SACRAMENTUM recorded their new album in Andy La Roque's studio Los Angered Recordings. It is called "Thy Black Destiny" and the ten songs (intro and outro included) on the album convey an outstanding dark intensity. The recording line-up was enforced by Nicklas Andersson (also in Lord Belial), who now is a permanent guitarist of SACRAMENTUM as well. In contradiction to most other bands SACRAMENTUM gets more and more intense and brutal for each record. Be sure that "Thy Black Destiny" will be a metalfist in the face of the far too nature- and vampireromantical black metal scene of today.
