January 2000 sees the return of one of Denmark's oldest and most respected extreme metal acts, Sacrificial.
The band was formed in august 1990 by brothers Kræn and Lukas Meier, guitar and drums respectively. They emerged from the, back then, very active part of southern Jutland; the Esbjerg/Ribe area, which was home of for instance Invocator, Maceration, and Caustic as well as several metal publications (Laceration, Sacroformity, Vicious). Sacrificial soon caused a lot of stir in the international metal underground with their debut demo "Lords Of Torment", which did very well among the demo-buying metal audience, and enthusiastic tape traders. The band soon gained a record deal on a local company, Trechoma Productions.
In 1993 Sacrificial issued their debut album "Forever Entangled" . The album was produced by the band themselves in cooperation with Jacob Hansen, and contained some harsh deaththrash. Focus was put on both aggressiveness as well as technical skills. The album was well received, especially in Germany and USA, and of course in Denmark. Sadly the record company didn't have the financial and promotional means to support the potential of Sacrificial properly and soon the label stopped and Sacrificial was all of a sudden without a record deal.
One year after the release of "Forever Entangled" Sacrificial played at Europe's biggest rock-festival, Roskilde Festival , with great success, and later in the same year they released the demo tape "Sadistic Slam . After this, the vocalist, John Hansen, left the band and moved to Copenhagen. Despite including a new singer and bassist and releasing a demotape "Authority..?" the band broke up in 1996.
Two years later the band reformed for just one re-union gig after a big request from the local audience (more important - for old times sake and VERY much for fun). Mighty Music was present at the concert. Impressed bu the band's extremely professional and intense live-performance, Mighty Music asked the band for a recording. Sacrificial quickly recorded a promo tape "b.r.i.e.f." and mailed it directly to Mighty Music HQ . One phone call and a meeting later, the record deal for two albums was signed.
This time around, the band decided to ask old time friend and supporter of Sacrificial , Jacob Hansen (danish producer guru, etc.) to help out with the recording. This turned out to be one of the most powerfull and aggressive productions heard in a long time. The music of Sacrificial anno 2000 stays faithful to their roots of the late eighties thrash (Dark Angel, Forbidden, Exhorder etc.) and it also incorporates influences from modern death metal and technical thrash. The new sound of Sacrificial has already been compared to bands like The Haunted and new Testament.
August 2002 Sacrificial will release their 3rd album, entitled "Autohate". Once again Sacrificial is ready to strike with a furious attack of pure, energetic and modern sounding thrashmetal. Played with skullblasting brutality and tightness beyond what you'll find in a virgins cunt, Sacrificial will hit you like a sledge hammer - and this hammer is called Autohate.
Autohate consists of 9 genuine thrash assaults, implementing a variety of technical and melodic aspects, yet still being simple and in your face. The voice of John Hansen has always been a trademark of Sacrificial, and he's more pissed than ever. Produced and recorded by Sacrificial, but mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen, the sound is huge and very modern.
Sacrificial has often been compared to bands like Testament, Darkane, The Haunted and of course mighty Dark Angel. When looking closer, it's an odd feeling being compared to bands like Darkane and The Haunted, since Sacrificial has existed and played this kind of musick longer than any of those bands. Sacrificial more than hatefull thrashmetal can easily match ANY bands in sheer brutality.
