Elizabeth Vandall was born in Stockholm, Sweden, as Elisabeth Ljungqvist but she moved to the United States when she was three years old together with her mother and her new American husband Richard Vandall. She was raised in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and became very interested in singing. In 1983 she moved to Los Angeles to work with professional vocal coaches such as Seth Riggs and Marjory Taylor. She was a member of several local bands before settling down in the heavy rock band Sahara with whom she recorded two albums. The band broke up in July 1995 as Diane Kornarens left the music business entirely. The band started out in 1986 and then it was basically just Diane Kornarens and Philip Woodward working on their own, writing songs together. They became a full line-up band in late 1987 when Liz, Orion and Kevin joined.
