The American nu-metal act Saliva was formed in Memphis, Tennessee in September 1996, following in the footsteps of bands like Creed and Nickelback. After having reached the final round of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Grammy Showcase competition in New York City (eventually being placed second out of 6,000 contenders) and released an eponymous debut album on their own they were picked up by Island Records.
The band's second Island Records release "Back Into Your System" (2002) included two chart topping hits called "Always" and "Rest In Pieces", the latter co-written by James Michael and Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe. 2003 saw the band on the road opening up for rock veterans Kiss and Aerosmith. Following some internal rumble, guitarist Chris D'abaldo parted with the band in early June 2005, later to be replaced by the former Full Devil Jacket member Jonathan Montoya.
