Shadow Dancers form in 1992 by will of Stian Johansen, a "living-legend" for followers of the death/black metal underground scene. At first, he was editor of "Sepulchral Noise" magazine and a studious of esoteric issues and occultism. He starts his musical career with Thy-Abhorrent recording the 7"EP "Death Rides Of Dawn", then joines the black metal masters MayheM in order to replace the singer Dead after his tragic demise for suicide (1991). In MayheM Stian, known by that time as Occults, plays bass guitar and covers the vocalist role for few months; then he quits the band because of artistic and ideological differences. At the same time he also works at Euronymous "Helvete Shop" in Olso. After the unlucky adventure with Euronymous and MayheM, he moves from Oslo and starts the Perdition Hearse project making the "Mala Fide" demo.
From the ashes of this band, together with drummer Jontho, guitarist Rym (both members of the black metal band Ragnarok), bassist Joy D. and the second guitarist Sanders, Stian starts working on Shadow Dancers. Musically they are a "gothic band" mainly inspired by the eighties dark-wave legends. Fields Of The Nephilim, Mission, Sisters Of Mercy, Joy Division, The Cure. Their particular sound is a fresh combination of different obscure and gloomy musical edges meeting black metal and doomy/psychedelic extremities. The first album "Equilibrio" is produced by Pal Espen Johannessen at X-Ray Studios (Sarpsborg, Norway) and represents the fist step of Shadow Dancers' brilliant career. "Equilibrio" gives new blood to the modern frequencies of gothic-metal, delivering intense and suggestive feelings with a passionate, theatrical performance. Episodes like "Tears From Heaven", "Sherwood Life" and "My Fate" highlight the darker side of the band, embracing different emotional shades. Shadow Dancers take a different way from the extreme metal melting-pot, trying to make original music on their own without following any kind of trend or fashion.
