Ton Of Bricks was formed in Uddevalla on the west coast of Sweden in 1994. The same year they won the legendary rock band contest "Rock Of Bohuslän" where they were awarded with a studio recording, resulting in the MCD "Blind". At that time Yonas Dahlström (later of Illwill) fronted the band. Drummer Anders Blomstrand was replaced by Kim Lindskog for the recording of the demo "Heard Of Black And Saw It Too" in 1996.
Dahlström and Lindskog later on left the band, being replaced by former Lost drummer Mats Karlsson and well known Gothenburg profile Tony Jelencovich (at first just as a temporay fill in). "Oppressor" was recorded with Mats and Tony, a CD that received much praise in many foreign metal magazines (among them the top rating in the respected German Rock Hard magazine).
Problems lay ahead for the band though as Mats moved to England and the band decided to move to Gothenburg. As Tony wanted to become a full-time member the rest of the band felt that it became a new beginning for them and they changed their name to Slavestate. Robert, Tony, Markus and Martin also formed a Pantera cover band called Plantera just for fun, mostly to raise money for a future demo recording.
