The American nu-metal band Static-X was formed in Illinois in the mid to late 90s by Wayne Static and Ken Jay who were introduced to each other by Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan in a Chicago record store.

On February 26th, 2005, it was reported that guitarist Tripp Eisen had been arrested on sex assault and kidnapping charges. Two days later the band parted with him as he was, according to a posting on their official website, "dealing with personal issues that prohibit him from being able to fulfill his commitment to the band".
