Susperia was formed in October 1998 by Tjodalv (Dimmu Borgir, Old Man´s Child) and his long
time friend Cyrus (Satyricon, Old Man´s Child). When Tjodalv left Dimmu Borgir in the
middle of March 1999 he started to concentrate fully on Susperia together with Cyrus. They
had already written some material for their band in 1998. The band was originally named
Seven Sins but because of copyright issues they had to change their name.
Things started to happen at the Wacken Open Air Festival in August 1999 when Athera met
Tjodalv as they were both travelling with Mayhem to help them out with their show. Tjodalv
had some of his music with him and told Athera that he was looking for musicians to get
the band started. Athera had a hobby band of his own and he borrowed the CD to see if he
would be interested. The music was free of keyboards and was pure extreme metal yet very
original and Athera really liked it. Athera was now a part of the new band.
Since the band was still in need of a second guitar player and a bass player Athera brought
with him his friends Memnoch and Elvorn who both played in his band. The line-up was now
complete. None of the band members are involved in any other projects except for Cyrus
who sometimes plays with his old band called Sensa Anima. In December 1999 they
recorded a five song demo called "Illusions Of Evil" at Pitfire Studio outside of Oslo in
Norway. The demo was mixed and mastered by L. Argedick. Synth and piano was done by Mustis
from Dimmu Borgir.
The demo was send to record companies with an astonishing result. About 10 major companies
offered them a deal but they chose to work with the German Nuclear Blast, also home of
Dimmu Borgir. In early 2000 they signed a four record deal with the company and their debut
album "Predominance" has now been recorded at the legendary Abyss Studios in October 2000
with a release date set to the 19th of March 2001.
"Susperia is not a Satanic band but through their lyrics they tend to criticize and question
the views and moral of Christianity. They do not believe in God, but they don`t believe
in Satan either. They highly believe in their music and in their individual selves."
