Band biography

The American thrash metal band Tension was originally formed in 1978 under the name Deuce by Tom Gattis and Marty Friedman. This year Gattis had moved from Wyoming to Maryland at the age of 15 to form a band. Throughout the early eighties the band played many live shows, opening up for many big national acts with an elaborate stage show. Five or six demos were also recorded. In 1984 they went into the studio to record a demo with the songs "Wrecking Crew", "Metal Paranoia" and "Reach For Your Sword", a demo resulting in the small New York based label Torrid Records signing the band. Just before signing the contract in mid 1985, bass player Mike Francis left and was replaced by Tim O'Connor. The band flew to LA to record their debut album "Breaking Point" at Capitol Records. While recording it was brought to their attention that there was already another band called Deuce. They now became Tension. The band was not very happy about their label who took one year to release the album and didn't offer any tours to support it.

Several members of the band became more and more immersed in their own business pursuits and in 1987 vocalist Tom Gattis gave the band an ultimatum: either move to an aread where metal was more popular like New York, L.A., or even Europe, or disband. The band fell back to playing local shows and tired of everything Tom left in 1988 and Tension was no more. In 1997 some of their best work was released as a cd called "Epitaph".

Their guitarist Tim Meadows was a brother of Angel's Punky Meadows. Bass player Mike Davis was fired since he was producing and dealing drugs. His replacement Chris Hall was also kicked out because of his drug use.
