American crossover pioneers The Accüsed came to life in Oak Harbor outside Seattle, Washington, in 1980, carrying an initial line-up of bassist Chibon 'Chewy' Batterman, Dana Collins and guitarist Tom Niemeyer. In 1983 they were joined by vocalist John Dahlin although he only stayed with the band for a year, to be replaced by Blaine Cook, formerly fronting Seattle hardcore punk act The Fartz as the band opted for a more metallic sound to assist their hardcore and punk roots. The band themselves would dub their style as "splatter rock" in 1984 as they were heavily into horror films.
During a 1986 American tour Chewy was fired and quickly replaced by Alex 'Maggot Brain' Sibbald, a veteran of punk acts like Maggot Brains, Itchy Brother and Cheating Death. In 1987 a North American tour with British punk rockers G.B.H. was completed. The band would create their own zombie mascot called Martha Splatterhead whose appearance graces most of their releases as well as promotional items. After having released five albums, three EPs and more than 100 songs the band decided to take a break in the 90s.
During this period the fledling Seattle grunge scene attracted a great deal of attention and both Sibbald and Niemeyer took part in this by creating Gruntruck. The drummer would then leave to form Red Hot Lunatic. Niemeyer would continue performing with acts like Hellcat, Lye and Mona Diesel.
In 2003 The Accüsed was resurrected and began playing shows in the Seattle area, debuting at Studio 7 on November 8th with opening acts Riverred and Dek. A new album, produced by Jack Endino and mastered by Scott Hull of grindcore merchants Pig Destroyer, entitled "Oh, Martha!" was also released on their own label Condar Records, a creation that would land on the top ten albums of the year list from the renowned Revolver Magazine. February 2005 the band toured the US with Himsa, 3 Inches Of Blood and Countdown To Life. The old line-up would not last long though and during 2005 three members (Blaine, Alex Sibbald and Steve Nelson) would leave to form a new band called Toe Tag.
Early 2006 "Oh Martha!" was licenced for a European release by leading independent metal specialists Nuclear Blast. Band leader and founding member Tom Niemeter decided to move on with the band and recruited three new members to complete the line-up once again. A February 2007 European tour with Crumbsuckers, Extreme Noise Terror and Driller Killer was cancelled. May and June 2007 saw the band undertake a headliner tour throughout Central Europe with support from the Canadian bands Dayglo Abortions and Golers. A new album was also going to be recorded in the summer.
