Little did Mr Gore and Fluffy Offalstench know what they were unleashing on the world. If only they hadn’t sat down with that crate of beer to watch a horror movie marathon the world would now be a different place. If only they hadn’t thought ’we could make music like these horror films’ the tragic events of the past six years may never have happened…
As I speak the disease is spreading fast, it seems unstoppable. Metal Blade records is now infected, is there no hope for humanity….
Somehow the virus has found its way back to the small town of Henley On Thames, on the out skirts of London, were it followed its fimliar path into Philia studios. Despite the brave efforts of producer/engineer Dave Chang (Stamping Ground, Desecration etc) the infected Gorerotted members overran the studio and laid waste to the equipment with unstoppable ferocity. Through the trashed equipment the virus has mutated, its changed into a vile new album ‘ONLY TOOLS AND CORPSES’. This horrible new strain of the disease sees Mr. Gore’s ‘Cockney Oi’ vocals playing off perfectly against Goreskins ‘deep, grindcore slabs of throat’ and Wilson’s high pitched backing vocals giving Gorerotted their own unique sound. This vile plague is a form of splatter/grind/ death Metal with a crusty, punk edge that could only come out of the down trodden slums of London. The musicianship is phenomenal, as is the production, ‘Only Tools and Corpses’ is a 9-song assault on the senses. A ride of intense brutality that will leave your adrenaline pumping and your blood racing, if you have any blood left…
The only hope of a cure is to research this virus known as ‘Gorerotted’ and its history. We need to find out how it started and how it has infected so many people so quickly.
As far as I can gather from my research the virus first showed it self to the public in 1998 with gigs across London. Word had got around about extreme live performances which lead to Gorerotted gaining much publicity when they were featured on a television commercial advertising ‘The Sun’ Tabloid Newspaper. The theme of the advert was ‘lifestyles’ which was run during Feb and March 1998 on terrestrial TV throughout the UK. So now the newspapers and the television had become infected…
With the money earned from the advert recording Gorerotted recorded and released their first demo MCD ‘Her Gash I Did Slash’ (now sold out at 1500 copies). Through this MCD the virus found its way into many magazines, fanzines and radio stations across the world. Only Kerrang magazine tried to resist infection by damning Gorerotted, saying they use Murder, violence and the suffering of others to promote they’re rather shoddy product’. So proud of this quote, Gorerotted had it printed onto the back of T-shirts for the world to see. Kerrang by trying to stop the virus had only help it to spread to more and more people. On the strength of this demo Gorerotted played shows across the UK, Holland, Belgium and Germany. Now the underground scene, magazines, fanzines and radio stations are all infected…
Through press reports and magazine reports I have managed to piece together what happened next. It seems in 2001 after hearing the demo a UK based label Dead Again Records had also become infected. Through Dead Again records Gorerotted released their debut album ‘Mutilated In Minutes’. This album proved to be one of the most extreme and catchy pieces of metal that the UK had vomited in a long time. This was also producer Dave Chang’s first experience with the foul disease that is Gorerotted. Around this time reports of the virus had again started to appear across Europe, the infected members of Gorerotted had been seen playing live in Holland, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Austria and the UK. Gorerotted laid waste to the German festival ‘Fuck The Commerce’ in May 2001 where they shared the stage with Exhumed, Cryptopsy, Regurgitate and many more. Gorerotted were hailed as the best band of the whole festival and so the virus spread further and further.
2002 saw ‘Mutilated In Minutes’ being re-released with new artwork, in Europe by Dead Again and by Relapse Records for the rest of the world. The re-release saw ‘Mutilated in Minutes’ being awarded number 7 gore metal album of all time in Terrrorizer Magazine ‘Gore’ issue 98. Only Carcass, Repulsion, Death and Autopsy had higher-ranking albums than Gorerotted. The ‘Gore’ Issue also saw Mr Gore interviewed selecting his top ten horror movies of all time. Unknown to Terrorizer they had just helped Gorerotted destroy more lives by promoting the very films that started this nightmare.
2002 also sees more and more reports of a strange gang of drunken zombies appearing at live venues across Europe. Again from my press clippings and police reports I have learnt that Gorerotted were now headlining festivals like Extreme Justice Festival (Holland), ‘Hacksore Festival’ (Germany), ‘Soul Grinding festival’ (France) and ‘Death and Grind Fest’ (Holland). They also appeared as one of the main bands at the Obscene Extreme festival (Czech Republic) with Pungent Stench, Rotten Sound, Aborted and Sinister. The last part of the 2002 saw the UK and Ireland finally succumbing fully to the disease when Gorerotted hit the road with Nile and Sinister as part of the ‘Nile’ UK tour.
The few people who have survived a Gorerotted live show tell me that it is a horrific event. The early days saw Gorerotted naked torsos dripping blood. Now in 2004 with their Rock and Roll antics Gorerotted can only be described as Iron Maiden, The Sex Pistols or Motley Crue playing death metal.
Now days sees Gorerotted put on a type of show that they themselves would want to see. During a typical live show, the unsuspecting audience is guided through a savage journey of gore and screams and bone crushing music and violent mosh pits and gore and screams and bone crushing music and violent mosh pits and gore and screams and bone crushing music and violent mosh pits and screams and screams…….They are Barbaric and insane and never fail to murder any audience that witnesses them.
Early 2003 saw the release of the only split CD Gorerotted have done. Never before had the virus attached itself in such a destructive way to other bands. This split saw it team up with GRUESOME STUFF RELSIH and GRONIBARD for a CD titled ‘Split Your Guts’ on Deepsend records. Gorerotted recorded again with Dave Chang at the now rebuilt Philia studio. The virus this time took the form of one new track ‘Fuck Your Arse With Broken Glass’ and two re-recorded tracks from the ‘her Gash I Did Slash’ demo, ‘Limb By Limb’ and ‘Carrion Smelling’. This split gave fans a taster of what was to come on ‘Only Tools and Corpses’ and also released the foulness of those demo tracks on an audience who could not get them anymore.
As I write these, maybe my last words the virus is on the move again. Only a few weeks ago, during November 2003 it spread through Europe attaching itself to the Pungent Stench / Gorerotted ‘A Splatterday Night’ tour. We can only guess at the numbers of infected now roaming the streets after seeing Gorerotted live. I fear the end is near, Gorerotted are already confirmed for the Summer Breeze (Germany) and Party San (Germany) festivals in August 2004. They also have plans for another European tour, a music video and DVD. How much longer can we all survive the Gorerotted onslaught...
