The Sins of Thy Beloved is one of the top metal bands from Norway. The band was formed in November 1996 by Stig Johansen, Glenn Morten Nordbø and Arild Christensen. It didn't take long before they had found three new members - Ola Aaarestad, Anita Auglend and Ingrid Stensland - and formed a complete band of six very talented musicians. At first the band was called Purgatory but since there were so many other bands with the same name they changed their name to the present one. After playing together for three months they recorded the "All Alone" MCD which was released through the Italian label Nocturnal Music. In September 1997 Anders Thue joined the band as their second keyboard player. In January 1998 the band recorded Silent Pain which was sent to several record labels and by March they had signed a contract with Napalm Records. In August same year they recorded their debut album Lake of Sorrow with seven tracks on it, among them new recordings of All Alone and Worthy of You from their first MCD. By now they had also met the Irish folk-musician Pete Johansen who helped them out with violin playing on their album. Pete has also played violin for the Norwegian band Tristania on their releases. In May 2000 TSOTB released their second album called Perpetual Desolation. In January 2001 Anita decided to leave the band since it took too much of her spare time and Hege Aanby from Stavanger joined the band to do the female vocals. In early April Hege was forced to leave the band since it didn´t work out as they had hoped.
