Thornspawn came into existence in 1993 when Blackthorn (drums and vocals) met with Swornghoul(guitar). Lord Necron (guitar) joined in 95 and the band has kept this core since. Thornspawn released the "The Dacian Empire" demo in 1996 and built themselves a loyal following with it. In 97 the Infamous "Consecration of Evil Flesh" demo was released and gave the band much recognition around the world. It got good reviews in metal mags like SOD, Nordic Vision, Heresy, Metal Maniacs, and many underground hardcore black metal zines. The band did some TX shows with Incantation and Vital Remains that built them solid live act reputation. The band then released the 7" "Infernal Legions" on Profanation Records. Then a deal was signed with Baphomet records mastermind Killjoy. Baphomet released "Blood Of The Holy, Taint thy Steel" in 2000 showcasing the rawness and brutality of the US black metal movement. The album put Thornspawn in the upper class of the US black metal scene. The band took it's live attack to the Metal Milwaukee MetalFest in 2000 making a huge impact. The band also played the Texas MetalFest the same year. Also opened for Mayhem on it's US tour for the TX shows. Thornspawn is also the organizer of the Sacrifice of the Nazerene Child Festival every year in San Antonio since 1998. This Fest is considered the only true black metal event in the US. Thornspawn has played with many acts over the years including Deicide, Mayhem, Exhumed, Solitude Aeturnus, Incantation, The Chasm, Black Witchery, Angel Corpse, Krisiun, Goatwhore, Vital Remains, Immolation, Absu, and many more. The Mini CD "Empress >From The Realms Of Blasphemy" was released next on Baphomet showcasing the bands even rawer attack. Now the world shall feel the "Wrath Of War"!
Comment: Ancient Vengeance was a project that Blackthorn had together with Proscriptor of Absu when Blackthorn had moved to Dallas but they never got anywhere. Later on he re-started the project with former members of Gnostic. They had 7 songs that were never released and the band eventually broke up.
In March 2004 the band signed a new record deal with the Polish label Agonia Records.
