Tristwood was formed in 1996 under the previous name ‘December’, consisting of three members (Deimon, Neru and Reitrakh). In the early beginnings the band´s style was rather ‘traditional’, the vein of e.g. Khold, Dimmu Borgir and Mayhem. Their first demo “Torment” was recorded in January 1997 and found its way to the tyrolean underground; shortly after the Torment session Reitrakh left the band due to musical differences because the others wanted to change the band´s attitude into a more avangardistic, unique style of black metal.
The project was temporarily quit until 2001 when Neru and Kjell reformed December but changed the name into ‘Tristwood’ after a few weeks. In 2002, Deimon, Kjell and Neru started a pre-production for their upcoming output.
Finally, “Fragments of the mechanical unbecoming” was recorded in summer 2003. The style they now have reached could be discribed as a brutal, psychedelic, avangardistic and cold sort of black-metal, based on the ideas of some futuristic and technocratic dark Endtime-Stories (e.g. by Eric van Lustbader, Christoph Ransmayr).
In early October 2005 the band signed a contract with the Portuguese / Brazilian label Sound Riot Records.
