The German black metal band Tsatthoggua was formed in 1989 under the monicker Dissection. A name change came about in 1993. They recorded a couple of demos before signing a deal with France's extreme metal specialists Osmose Productions. In 1996 the band toured together with Sweden's black metallers Marduk. In the year 2000 it was announced that the band had split up. Tsatthoggua is the name of an ancient god in the works of Howard Philips Lovecraft. The god is described as "...the black frog, terror from the dark...". Tsatthoggua's lyrics are centered around BDSM.
