Tyrant was originally formed in December 1994. The line up was: Keisuke (vo/b) Ryugo (key) Iwata (g). In February 1995, the band released their 1st promo tape "Black crown," which was something like what we now call primitive black metal. Not fully satisfied and after some line-up changes, they released their 2nd promo tape entitled "Under the dark mystic sky" in September 1995. It sold about 600 copies and was welcomed by the fans of atmospheric black metal. Their basic music style was formed at that time. In March 1996 they got a suitable drummer, Masaya. They had never played their newer and more complex songs before the addition of Masaya on drums without the drum machine. All things ran at full speed after that.
In January 1996, Tyrant entered the studio to record the song entitled "Grudge of Dannoura" for the compilation "Teach your soul with fire". In July 1996, Damien (now Ritual Carnage R.I.P.) joined them and sent that song to several foreign labels. Some of them were interested in their sound and after consideration the band chose to work with Pulverised records. It's a pity that Damien left the band in March 1997, but he contributed well to the band's future. In July 1997, they started to record their 1st album "Under the dark mystic sky" in the studio Nest. It was released in February 1998 and was very well received: SOD mag 9.5/10, Kerrang mag 4.5/5, Burnn mag 84/100 etc. But the band lost Masaya after the release, in April 1998. Until February 1999, Tyrant looked for a new drummer, and Mr Tsuboi (who also plays for Vomit Remnants) joined the band. In February 2000, they closed a deal with Displeased records.
After some further line-up changes, all stabilized around March 2000. The band began to concentrate on writing and recording their new majestic and epic melodic black metal opus, which was finalized at the end of 2001.
