In 1990 Mr. T.L. Messiah and Trondr Nefas started playing together. In 1992 they started to take music more seriously and decided to form a band. This was the birth of the Norwegian black metal band Urgehal. The first real line-up consisted of Messiah, Chiron, Nefas and his girlfriend Aradia on keyboards. Aradia left later on though as the band didn't have any use for synthesizers any longer. In 1994 and 1995 they recorded a couple of demos which were well received in the underground, especially in Germany. The result was a record contract with the German label No Colours. In 1995 their debut album "Arma Christi" was released, followed by a second one "Massive Terrestrial Strike" in 1997. Because of some problems with the second album (typing errors, a missing song, marketing issues etc.) they split with No Colours. Urgehal continued rehearsing and writing new material but didn't want to rush to a new deal. Their third album was released by a new small underground label, Flesh For Beast Records, from their home town Hønefoss. The guy who runs the label is actually a very good friend of the band. In early 2002 Urgehal did a small German tour. Label manager Morten Kaalhus of Flesh For Beast came in contact with the German metal label Folter Records who paid all expenses for their tour and they did two gigs in the Berlin area. The first gig was pretty normal with about 120 people attending. The second one was however a very small concert which took place in a shut down tar factory run by some punk rockers, MC people and black metallers. 300 people came to this show and after the gig some people from the crowd forced their way backstage and a big fight broke out. The band ran out of there as soon as possible without any serious injuries, drove to the ferry and went back home to Norway. A European tour together with Bloodline and Shining will take place in September of 2003 with shows planned for Germany, Spain, Belgium and Holland.
