In the summer of 2002, Eric Seaman (bass) and Jake Adams (guitar, vocals) talked about starting a new music project. Wanting to get back to to some heavy, riff-based rock, they approached local drummer Luke Shafer and Valkyrie was born. Valkyrie practiced sporadically and played a few local (Rockbridge County, Va) shows between Winter of 2002 and Winter of 2003-04. Upon returning to Virginia, Jake's younger brother Pete stepped in as another guitar and vocalist. It was at this point that Valkyrie emerged as the force that it is today. After practicing with Valkyrie for only a few weeks, Pete joined the band live on the air on the local college radio station on February 22, 2004. Luckily the sound engineer had recorded the live show, and Valkyrie released a 5 song demo soon thereafter with songs from that session. The demo got some good reviews, and in the summer of 2004 Valkyrie started playing out-of-town shows. Luke Shafer got married in April 2004 and left the band to move to Nevada, leaving a space for Mike Hoke, a long-time friend of Jake and Pete. Hoke brought a classic, jam-based sound to the drums that truly complemented Valkyrie's traditional, heavy rock sound. In the fall of 2004 released a promo cd called "sunlight shines," but soon thereafter was faced with the loss of both Eric and Mike. Luckily, Nic McInturff (drums) and Nick Crabill (bass) stepped in soon thereafter and now complete Valkyrie's rhythm section. Valkyrie is currently scheduling a nine day tour in March.
