VANDERHOOF was formed in 1997 with the 5 original members... Kurdt Vanderhoof, Kirk Arrington, Damon Albright, Brian Cokeley and Dave Hawkes. The concept was to bring real rock back to the forefront, a means to provide an alternative to the un-skilled, un-melodic releases that were currently out.
VANDERHOOF secured a contract with SPV Germany and released their self-titled debut album in 1997, and subsequently thundered across Europe with Savatage on the "Disco Still Sucks" tour, garnering praise, critical acclaim, and winning over even the most hardcore metalheads along the way.
After the tour, Kurdt and Kirk joined back up with Metal Church to release "Metal Church Live", created from a long forgotten master tape, and with Metal Church recorded the studio album "Masterpeace", followed by a European tour.
In 2000, Kurdt and co-producer Chris Jacobson headed into The English Channel and began the recording process for "A Blur In Time", with Chris doing the bass work but preferring to stay out of the spotlight so a new bass player will be added at tour time. After the pre-production was done, they relocated the studio to Seattle from Olympia, and also retooled the lineup to include vocalist Drew Hart.
Along the way they discovered a wealth of un-tapped melodies and harmonies, the depths of which are uncovered layer by layer with each spin of the disc. For an outline of what instruments and techniques were used, look on the Producer"s Notes page.
Now that "A Blur In Time" is a reality, Vanderhoof will be packing their bags to come and play this incredible music live.. for you, the fan. See you on tour!
VANDERHOOF is on hiatus while a new Metal Church album is being recorded.
