Vanquish was formed in August of 2001 with the goal of
creating a heavy metal band entwined with elements of progressive metal. The
lineup consisted of Brian Berry on bass, Mark DiVito on lead guitar and
vocals, Anthony Maiden on drums and Ryan Wagner on lead guitar.
Vanquish began writing original material and covering songs from such acts as
Metallica, Megadeth, Pink Floyd and Dream Theater. After a number of
small gigs and the writing of a few originals it was decided by the band
to add another member to take over the vocalist duties as well as
provide keyboard accompaniment. This freed Mark from the demands of lead
vocals and allowed him to focus primarily on guitar. The position was
filled in May of 2002 by Greer Cawthon. Two months later, Ryan Wagner
parted ways with the band due to musical differences. Vanquish continued
writing more originals and performing in various venues across Hampton
Roads, Virginia as a four-piece band with no second guitarist. Soon!
the band decided to take the original songs they had written and
record a demo CD. Vanquish enlisted the assistance of Keith Burrell of Cue
Recording Studios in Falls Church, Virginia in the recording and
production of the CD. During the recording process Vanquish continued to
perform at various locations in Virginia and Washington, DC. In the fall of
2002, Vanquish experimented with the idea of adding a second guitar
player, but none were found who could mesh effectively with the band. So,
they continued playing out as a four member act while continuing to
record. After more months of recording and performing, Mark DiVito was
introduced to an up-and-coming guitarist by the name of Steve King. From
the first practice with Steve in the winter of 2004, Vanquish had found
the guitarist they needed to polish off their sound. Currently Vanquish
is in the final stages of completing their first full length album,
showcasing over fifty minutes (nine songs) of original music. They r!
ecently released a five song EP which has been well received by fans.
Vanquish has had the honor of playing out at venues across Virginia,
Washington DC and New York City. The band continues to book shows at
numerous venues across America to further promote their original style of
music.
