VENOMOUS CONCEPT IS OUTLAW PUNK. That is the description
from the band of what style they play. What exactly is outlaw punk??
Good question??
Venomous Concept is the brainchild of Shane Embury (Napalm Death, Lock
Up), and Kevin Sharp (Brutal Truth). The idea was tossed around while
Shane was in the states after touring Napalm Death’s “Order of the
Leech” album. After the tour ended Shane visited some old friends. One of
them was Kevin Sharp. The two discussed the idea of starting a band
that had no rules, much like old school hardcore punk bands. Originally
Mick Harris, former drummer for Napalm Death was to be the man behind
the kit for Venomous Concept. Instead, for whatever reason, Danny
Herrera (current drummer for Napalm Death) took the spot. To complete the
line-up Buzz Osbourne (Melvins, Fantomas) was asked to play guitar.
Their first full length was recorded in 2003 and has been named
“Retroactive Abortion”. The band themselves paid for the recording of the album,
“that way they record whatever they want, whenever they want... they
are uncontrolled by labels... they produce their own music, art an!
d media”. Once the album was recorded they shopped it around for the
record deal. Since, they have signed the album to Ipecac Records, and
“Retroactive Abortion” will be released June 29, 2004. It will include
a strange conceptual video clip. Shane will also release a vinyl
version of the LP on Napalm Death’s label FETO. Venomous Concept has played
one show in Chicago so far, so there aren’t many people are around to
give their impression of the band. To quote the Venomous Concept
website they take influences from many different scenes; Japanese, Swedish,
English, West Coast hardcore punk are all combined together, which will
undoubtedly be an unruly noise. THEY MAKE NO APOLOGIES... IT'S ALL RAW
NOISE!!
Well, that’s about all I can say for this band at this point.
Considering the members in this band, Venomous Concept should be a fucking
killer band. Considering the members, will their noise be grind?? Or will
it actually sound like old school hardcore punk. I expect that
Venomous Concept will be original unconventional wild noise that will kick
many skulls in. Look out for them to release a series of split 7" on FETO
records as well. Also the band is setting up some one off shows in the
States - New York, LA and maybe back in Chicago again.
Cheers.
