Band biography

Wardog was formed in the summer of 1993 by some friends who were all attending the New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. At this time they were not very serious about the band but just jamming around. It all became more serious in October when they were joined by former Deuce / Tension member Tom Gattis who was in college to get a degree in civil engineering. In December 1994 they went into the studio and recorded an independent cd which they mostly sold locally. One of the cds ended up at Michael Trengert who had just started working for Metal Blade Records. He managed to convince label boss Brian Slagel to sign the band. As band members graduated they relocated from Las Cruces to Phoenix, Arizona. They were quite well known in Europe where they played at some big festivals like Band Your Head in 1998 and Wacken Open Air in 1999 (main stage). At the Bang Your Head show they were joined on stage by Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. When band leader Chris Catero turned down a European tour with Fear Factory in late 1999, Tom Gattis quit and the band disintegrated. Chris, Paul and Eric formed a new band called Razer in mid 2000.
