1999-2000. Wave was formed in Helsinki, Finland back in 1999
by Mira and Juha. They formerly influenced in a band called
Voodoonukke. Juha has also played in a bands such as Chasm and Sweet Nadir. Mira
had sang and performed in theatres. In the autumn of the same year,
former The Document -drummer, Tona, joined the band and a few monts later
Juha’s sideman, Panu from Sweet Nadir, joined in as a bass player. With
this line-up, a three-song demo-CD was recorded, which gained some
interest and attention in the media and the local rock-scene. In the summer
of 2000 the band experienced some setbacks as Tona decided to move to
the United States and Panu wanted to concentrate on his music in Sweet
Nadir and on his new Sidechain -project. The problems were easily solved
as Juha’s old pal, Rami, who coincidently had just returned from his
three-year “tour” in England, stepped in to take over the drummer’s
throne. Soon after this, after replying to an add in a Finnish music!
magazine, Pete auditioned for a rehearsal and convinced the rest of
the band with his bass playing skills - the line-up was complete again.
2001-2002. In the autumn and in the early winter of 2001, the band
spent time rehearsing, recording some new songs at the rehearsal studio,
playing some gigs and contacting some Finnish and foreign record
companies. In March, the band was back in the studio, this time at BT
Powerhouse in Helsinki. Two new songs, "Needles in my ears" and "Forgive and
forget" were recorded. The band played some live shows during the summer
of 2001 and in November, after a long wait, Wave finally moved into a
new rehearsal studio situated in the heart of Helsinki. A while after
that the new demo "Burning the Bridges" was recorded at the good old BT
Powerhouse. The demo was finally released in the spring of 2002. In
summer 2002 bassist Pete decided to lay his bass guitar aside and
concentrate on other things in life - the band was lacking a bass player again.
With a V.I.P. gig only a few weeks ahead, a new bassist was urgently
needed to fill in the gap in the line-up. Fortunately things worked o!
ut well as Rami's brother Marius was ready to jump into Pete's boots
without hesitation. The gig went well and Marius has played with the band
ever since.
2003. In the beginning of the year the band stomped back to
BT-Powerhouse to record a two-tracker titled "See-through Hearsay", also including
"Big bang and black holes". In March, the previous single, "Burning the
bridges", was released on Uplift Records' "Uplifter 3" rock compilation
CD. More good news followed in April when Rami and his wife got their
first son, thus addind another hard rock trooper into the family! The
rest of the year was spent rehearsing and working on new material and
promoting "See-through hearsay".
2004 ->. Early 2004 has been very promising for the band as
"See-through hearsay" has received many positive reviews on the internet. More
positive publicity followed in February when "Big bang and black holes"
hit the radiowaves on Radio Helsinki. The first few gigs this year have
been a blast as well and more shows are expected for the coming months.
The promotion of "See-through hearsay" continues and the next step will
be nothing less than signing a decent record deal and continue
performing in front of larger audiences.
