The idea to start a band was born in the heads of Dzenan (guitar) and Eva (vocals) in 1997, after they had quit their former hippie-band Eurocream in Motala (Sweden). After a two-year-long desperate search for a percussionist and a bass-player they finally found Emil (called E-mail; drums) and Janne (bass). Then a new desperate search started, this time for an original style, because all the members came from quite different musical backgrounds. After a lot of jamming and testing covers of different styles a completely new sound naturally developed, a sound that illuminates the taste, experience and musical skills of each member of the band (at this time still a nameless band). Thereafter Eva wrote some lyrics, the story and image grew up, a name for the band was voted for among many proposals and the producing of tunes started. Xzoriath had its first performance in November 2001 within the Rockkarussellen in Linköping (Sweden).
Our music could be described as epic alternative metal, epic because it aims to create a story in the listeners fantasy (even without the lyrics) and alternative because it stands on a plain ground of metal but doesn't fit clearly into any specific style within the traditional metal. But you certainly could find the elements of black/goth metal and classical music. The sound is apocalyptic, as well as the lyrics, and the aim is to force the listener to wander through as much of the different moods as the spectrum of music and human sensitivity can offer.
