Covered Call sign with Blistering Records
Today
BLISTERING RECORDS is pleased to announce the world-wide signing of COVERED CALL, the Swedish melodic hard rock band who want to reach out and connect with rock fans when their North American debut 'Money Never Sleeps' is released on January 27th, 2009 (end of March in Europe)

The band - which features established members of the Swedish music scene, including founding member/drummer Ronny Svanströmer and Thomas Vikström (ex-Candlemass, Therion) - recorded and mixed 'Money Never Sleeps' at Studio Fredman by Fredrik Nordström (In Flames, HammerFall, Dimmu Borgir) and Henrik Udd.

COVERED CALL are an essential band in these times of middle-of-the-road rock and plastic pop bands, a band that currently may not be playing stadium-size shows like the veteran rock acts of the 80s that they drew inspiration from (Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Aerosmith and AC/DC), but they play like they do, thanks in part to their attitude and the melodic hooks used to reel fans in. And that says a lot!

Tracklisting for 'Money Never Sleeps':

1. All Because of Me
2. Til' The End
3. Shine
4. Never Again
5. Anything You Want
6. I Wanna Be Free
7. Nothing At All
8. Money Never Sleeps
9. What About Us
10. Let's Make it Real

Lineup:
Ronny Svanströmer - Drums
Thomas Vikström - Lead Vocals
Joel Carlsson - Guitar, Vocals
Thomas Thulin - Bass
Morgan Rosenquist - Guitar

God Dethroned studio update
Today
Dutch Death Metal pioneers GOD DETHRONED entered Soundlodge studios in Germany in October with producer Jörg Uken to begin recording its new album, ‘Passiondale’, for an April 2009 release via Metal Blade Records.

’Passiondale’ will be a concept album about World War I. Songtitles set to appear on the CD are as follows:

1. Under A Darkening Sky
2. Behind Enemy Lines
3. Drowning in Mud
4. No-Man's Land
5. Passiondale
6. Poison Fog
7. Fallen Empires
8. Artifacts of the Great War
9. No Survivors

Guitarist/vocalist Henri Sattler has issued the following update: "Rhythm guitars, bass and lead guitars are all finished now. We took some time off from the studio to prepare some new things for us, like different bass lines, harmonies and other stuff we haven't done like this before.

Producer Jörg Uken learned some new things when it came down to my unconventional way of composing harmony lines. One day we would record a melody line and the harmony just on the clicktrack to put it into the song later. He goes, 'This already sounds out of tune like this and we haven't even put it in the music yet.' I go, 'Just put it in the music, Jörg." It was nice to see this big question mark above his head when we checked out the result. It sounded just great.
You can check that out yourself when our album comes out somewhere in April next year.

Right now I'm finishing my lyrics and I already screamed my lungs out on a few tracks. Actually, now I'm writing the lyrics for the album, I realize how intensely sick this war was. World War I had the biggest amounts of casualties during a single battle than any other war in history. I've been stunned quite a few times when I did research for my lyrics. Anyway, vocals should be ready by the end of next week.

Then last but not least, we also started to work with keyboard player Danny Servaes again. He also played keyboards on the 'Grand Grimoire' and 'Bloody Blasphemy' albums. He just knows what to play to our songs and as promised our new album will go back to those old times, sound- and song-wise."

‘Passiondale’ is scheduled for release in April of 2009 via Metal Blade Records!

Today
German technical death metal maestros CENTAURUS A will be releasing their debut album 'Side effects expected' on Listenable Records in March 2009. Tacere announce new line-up
Yesterday
The new female singer of the Finnish melodic metal masters Tacere is "Taiya R." from the city of Tampere, Finland. She was selected after a long application process lasting for over 6 months. Tacere also hired a new keyboard player, "Veli-Matti Kananen", who is best known for playing with bands such as Poisonblack and Eternal Tears of Sorrow. This is what the band's leader "Karri Knuuttila" had to say about the situation:

"We were astonished about the huge amount of singers applying for the band from all around the world. Making a decision about the new singer was hard as there were a lot of talented applicants, some of who already had existing publicity and status. But in Taiya we found the perfect singer: She is extremely talented, looks killer, has a very cool attitude & stage presence and most importantly her personality fits the band perfectly. Now with the new line-up the motivation of the band is higher than ever and we're really excited about the future of our band."

Tacere is planning to enter the studios in February 2009 to start recording a follow up for the 2007 debut album "Beautiful Darkness". No release schedule is yet announced as the band is still looking for a proper partner to release the album with. Tacere also opened up a new website and a new Myspace site, both sites including pictures of the new line-up and a couple of demo preproduction versions of 2nd album Tacere songs with vocal performances from Taiya. The band will also have the first live performance with the new line-up already during this month in Helsinki, the capital city of Finland.

Katagory V part with drummer
2008-12-01
Katagory V's co-founder and drummer Matt Suiter has announced that he
has left the band. This news comes less than a year after the
announcement of guitarist Marc Hanson and original vocalist Lynn
Allers also leaving the band.

Suiter has issued this statement concerning his decision. "After
nearly ten years of playing in Katagory V, I have made the difficult
decision to leave the band. This is a choice that I have been
struggling with for a very long time, and have finally decided that it
was my time to concentrate on other things in my personal life. I have
enjoyed the many years with my brothers in Katagory V, both past and
present, and am grateful for the many opportunities that came my way;
many that I never thought I would ever experience in my lifetime. You
could say that many of my childhood dreams were fulfilled by playing
in this band. It was a lot of blood, sweat and tears and a labor of
love, and I am going to miss it. I want to send a huge thanks to all
the Kat 5 fans that I've met from near and far, and thank the many
amazing bands and musicians over the years I was able to hang out and
share the stage with, and for their kind words and encouragement,
especially my metal brother Ronny Munroe (Metal Church)! And Finally,
I want to wish my brothers in Katagory V the best of luck for the
future."

Bassist Dustin Mitchell follows up with this statement, "I've been
playing in various bands with Matt for over 15 years, including his
long tenure in Katagory V, and I have to say that it's going to be
difficult in adjusting to his not being behind the kit making an ass
out of himself! He's been a good friend and cohort in crime for many
years, and with Matt being one of the founding members of Katagory V,
his keen sense of humor and contributions will be missed. He's busted
his ass over the years, stuck it out during some real hard times, and
his talent has not gone unnoticed by his band mates, the fans and
other bands we've performed with. After 10 years in Katagory V, Matt
feels he has done what he set out to do many years ago, and that was
to just have fun making great music that meant something to other
metal fans much like himself. We respect his decision one hundred
percent, and wish him all the best. He had come to us with this
decision several months ago, and was kind enough to stick around for
one final gig as a farewell and also until we had found his replacement.

With that being said, there is indeed a new drummer in place that we
are working with right now. We are not at the liberty to make an
official announcement at this moment concerning who it is, however, we
can only tell you at this time that this new drummer is more than
qualified to fill Matt's shoes. I will tell you that this personal has
a nickname and is being referred to as "Bizzaro!" Once we have had
some more time to work with this talented individual, an official
announcement and introduction will be made, as well as a status report
concerning the next Katagory V album."

With Suiter out of Katagory V, the band now consists of Bassist Dustin
Mitchell and Guitarist Curtis Morrell as the only remaining original
members, along with new guitarist Mike Thiriot and Vocalist Al Rybka,
who were both announced as recent additions to the band earlier this year.

KATAGORY V's most recent album, "Hymns of Dissension", was released in
September 2007 in Europe through Burning Star Records and in October
in the U.S. on Nightmare Records.

Persona Non Grata sign with Sensory
2008-12-01
Sensory is proud to announce the signing and forthcoming release of a new rising star on the Greek progressive metal scene - Persona Non Grata. Their upcoming debut release is entitled Shade In The Light, and will be released on February 24, 2008.

Greece has always had some of the most fervent metal fans in the world. Although the main interest has been so called “true metal” bands in the style of Manowar and Iron Maiden, progressive metal started to take hold of the country in the 90s. Bands such as Dream Theater and Fates Warning routinely perform in Athens and both have released live CDs and DVDs from their Greek performances. Greek bands such as Fragile Vastness and Sensory’s own Wastefall have generated a buzz worldwide and the scene continues to expand. Persona Non Grata will surely continue this tradition of great progressive metal.

Persona Non Grata’s formation began in 2003 when John Ioannidis (keyboards) invited Chris Gatsos (guitars) to join his group Fatal Error. It didn’t take long for John and Chris to realize that they had to move on to progressive metal music which was a mix of rock that John loved to play and heavy metal that Chris grew up with. In order to achieve this they had to change the band’s lineup. During this period they focused on writing the music, which would be the material for their first CD Shade In The Light.

It was two years later when vocalist, Bill Axiotis, joined the PnG group and they started recording this album. They asked session musicians Akis Gavalas (drums) and Chris Vogiatzis (Bass) to help record the release. When the sessions were over they felt a synergy with the three members of the band and came on board permanently, completing the lineup of Persona Non Grata.

Shade In The Light captures a band creating complex music but coming from the melodic end of the metal musical spectrum. Similar bands would include Circus Maximus, Vanden Plas, and Poverty’s No Crime.

New Samael album out next winter
2008-11-30
After completing the work on the Above material, S A M A E L decided
that "Above" will no longer be a project but the title of their new
album. Recently asked about the album, this is what Vorph had to say:

"After 20 years we've tried to do an album that would represent what
S A M A E L is all about and we did "Solar Soul". We feel now it is
the right time to remember the people where we come from and that's
exactly what "Above" will do. It is like an enhanced version of our
three or four first albums, maybe the missing link between "Cermony Of
Opposites" and "Passage". With the "Era One" project we've tried to
work on different influences, with "Above" we striped everything down.
It is a metal album through and through."

The album release is set for winter 2009!

Ephel Duath announce new vocalist
2008-11-28
Italian avant-garde metallers EPHEL DUATH have announced a new vocalist for the band, GUILLERMO GONZALES.

EPHEL DUATH guitarist and founding member DAVIDE TISO comments: "Guillermo has been close to Ephel Duath for some time - he almost joined the band before in 2003! He was going to take the place of the clean vocalist Davide Tolomei who left Ephel Duath after The Painters Palette. Then we realized that Guillermo's aggressive vocal approach was going to clash with Lucio and we all agreed to abandon the idea. In any case, from that moment on Guillermo started to be very active with Ephel Duath, helping me with lyrics and the development of the concepts so far. The whole idea behind the songs 'Vector' and 'Vector Third Movement' from Pain Necessary To Know come from a conversation we had together. More recently, he was the person that pushed me to write the short stories I did for Through My Dog's Eyes.

"I always thought that one day I was going to have a band with my friend Guillermo, then when Lucio realized that he was forced to abandon the band, we both agreed that he was the right person to call to properly continue the activity of Ephel Duath. We are already working so hard, that I didn't have the time to realize how excited I am to start this new adventure... What I know is that I'm really, really happy and genuinely trusting for the future of my life, and my band."

New vocalist GUILLERMO is a professional poker player and the band even plan to finance some future tours through playing poker.

GUILLERMO comments: "I've been in the Italian extreme metal scene since 1992. For 15 years I've been the lead singer of Mothercare, one of the most important Italian underground extreme metal bands (boasting collaborations with Napalm Death and Nasum). I met Davide in 2002 when we both lived in Venice. He's been my dearest friend since then. We often tried to do something together, but our roads always went in different directions. Now it seems our roads have finally become one.

"2 months ago I left Mothercare because of internal contrasts and I felt like my life was over. 2 weeks ago Davide told me that Lucio was going to quit and asked me to become Ephel Duath's new singer. A new life started. Lucio is a great performer and has been a great partner for Davide; I'm honored to be his heir and I'm insanely excited about being in a band that I always considered one of the most innovative and original in today's music. In my "regular" life I am a poker journalist and a professional poker player. Since 2006 I'm the editor in chief of Poker Sportivo, the main Italian poker magazine. I live now in Verona but I'm often touring Europe to follow all major poker tournaments. I've got a blog where I write about my poker life, cinema, music, creative writing and other stuff."

Check out GUILLERMO's blog at http://manglewax.blogspot.com

LUCIANO LORUSSO GEORGE, vocalist for Ephel Duath since 2003's THE PAINTERS PALETTE, was forced to leave the band for economic and personal reasons. EPHEL DUATH have always been a band of coincidence and change, constantly evolving, and as fate would have it, after recording an album about a dog, LUCIANO has become a full-time dog groomer - the irony of which has not been lost on main man DAVIDE.

DAVIDE states: "Lucio is together with me the guy who has always believed most in this band so far. The news about his departure has been shocking, especially for him as he had no choice - and he never thought about his life without the band. I'm so sad he's no longer part of this project, especially after all the work he's put into Through My Dog's Eyes. Ephel Duath has always tried to surmount any obstacles put in its path and this is probably one of the most difficult we've ever faced, but we will continue because challenges are the roots of this band and it's what makes us stronger. And after recording an album about a dog, who can fault fate with this twist they've laid upon us?"

THROUGH MY DOG'S EYES is due to be released by Earache Records on January 26th, 2009. Check out a promo picture for the album at http://tinyurl.com/69afvw

Satyricon confirmed for Bloodstock
2008-11-28
The Bloodstock team are pleased to announce that Norwegian Black Metal Band Satyricon have been added to the bill for 2009.
Satyricon was formed in 1990 by Czral (Carl-Michael Eide) and Wargod. Haavard (Ulver) soon joined them. Satyr took over lead vocals in 1991.

The band credits their first album, Dark Medieval Times, with starting a black metal subgenre that they dubbed "medieval metal". The album showed off the fascination Satyricon had with the Middle Ages, along with raw black metal blastbeats produced by Frost, mixed with acoustic guitar and flute. On their next album, The Shadowthrone, this medieval spirit was continued. Satyricons third album, Nemesis Divina, contains Norwegian black metal influenced by medieval metal and was released in 1996. Rebel Extravaganza, Satyricons fourth album, was released in 1999. It contained more industrial metal influences then the previous albums.

Regarding one of their latest albums, Volcano, frontman Satyr stated in a press release / biography on their homepage that "the music is rock based but more extreme; it is black metal pushing the boundaries that began with bands like Venom and Bathory, reinventing ourselves based on a foundation of rock oriented black metal is our philosophy." It resulted in a total of 4 Awards for Volcano being, the Norwegian Grammy for "Best Metal Album", an Alarm award for "Fuel For Hatred" in the category for "Song of the Year", as well as The Alarm Award for "Metal Album of the Year" and The Oslo awards for "Best Overall Album".
