Ares Kingdom release new album
2010-01-20
Ares Kingdom’s long awaited sophomore album, Incendiary, has been released by Nuclear War Now Productions on CD, LP and picture LP. It was recorded, produced, mixed and mastered at the band’s own Very Metal Sound studio in Kansas City.

As uncompromising defenders of the faith, Ares Kingdom’s music is built on the foundations of classic heavy, thrash and death metal, while at the same time transcending simple categorization.

Lyrically the album’s synthesis of contemporary and historical subjects and ideas represents an inspiring declaration for the Individual against complacency, dogmatism and cloven-hoofed flock ignorance.

Incendiary CDs include a 16-page booklet with a variety of historical artwork reflecting the theme of each song’s lyrics. Regular vinyl versions of Incendiary include a giant 8-page lyric booklet and poster. A special ‘die hard’ edition includes a picture LP, plus the gatefold jacket and inner sleeve from the regular version, as well as a back patch and sticker featuring artwork from the layout.

In October 2009 Ares Kingdom appeared at Calgary’s Noctis III Festival, and NWN’s Fest in Berlin in November. The band recently played in Kansas City and Los Angeles with Order From Chaos and is confirmed to appear at the Destroying Texas Festival on April 3, 2010 with OFC, Inquisition, Averse Safira and Toxodeath. More US dates will be announced shortly.

Converge confirmed for Roskilde Festival
2010-01-18
One of the fiercest and most inventive hardcore bands is gearing up for this summer’s Roskilde Festival in Denmark.

The Danish Metal Awards took place this Saturday evening. Roskilde Festival supported the show, and they celebrated the event by revealing one of this summer’s festival’s wildest and most uncompromising bands.

CONVERGE (US) has frightened and fascinated a growing audience since 1990. The American four-piece’s starting point is the tortured scream from Black Flag, but Converge has taken the classic hardcore punk and refined the expression by adding math-rock and extreme metal to the equation. Converge’s latest album is Axe to Fall on which they prove that they still manage to speak to both the bespectacled and the tattooed audience.

Dark Funeral announce support acts
2010-01-18
Swedish black metal veterans DARK FUNERAL are proud to announce two (of the three) support acts for their up-coming tour throughout Europe; ZONARIA and CARACH ANGREN. On the UK leg of the tour AKERCOCKE will be joining them too. One more band, a third band that will participate on the whole tour, will be announced shortly, so stay tuned!

Lord Ahriman comments: I can’t wait to hit the road throughout Europe again. It feels like ages ago since we last toured here (2005/2006). And to make up for this rather long absence from our European fans, to support and celebrate the release of our latest masterpiece “Angelus Exuro pro Eternus”, we are going to bring out and offer you our biggest and most professional production yet! And as you perhaps can tell, I’m really excited about this. This will be insane! I’m also glad we have managed to put together a truly strong and musically interesting bill for this tour. And I am totally convinced that this will be a killer tour in all aspects. So raise those Metal Horns high. And we will see you in March/April!!!

Abigail Williams forced to cancel tour
2010-01-18
Due to drummer Ken Meyers' recent injury, ABIGAIL WILLIAMS are forced to cancel their upcoming tour with Nile scheduled to kick off January 15 in Baltimore, Maryland. The tour was planned to support the recent release of a deluxe version of the band’s latest album, In The Shadow Of A Thousand Suns (featuring five bonus songs and all new artwork) and the vinyl pressing of the popular record originally released late 2008.

Discussing the enhancements of the deluxe edition in a recent interview, vocalist/guitarist Sorceron reveals: "'In Death Comes The Great Silence' reveals a new direction that the band has been working towards over the last year. 'Infernal Divide' is another new song that I feel again redefines our established sound. This track was recorded quite raw and has a strong black metal influence. 'Waiting For The Rain' is a somber interlude we have been using a bit during live shows. Along with 'I Am (God)' and a demo version of 'Floods,' I felt it was important to include because it captures the vibe of the song better than the album track; perhaps due to the work of original drummer Zack Gibson, the deluxe edition is a pretty cool time capsule of new material to show what we have been creating since we originally recorded the album.

Limited to 2500 units, the deluxe also includes the video for "Into the Ashes." Filmed under the famed London Bridge Sorceron recalls, “we were in this dungeon-like area that they used to store dead bodies in. We felt right at home, minus the smell, of course." The video debuted on Headbangers Ball in early December and saw several plays on the specialty program. MTV called the James Murphy (Testament, Death) produced In The Shadow Of A Thousand Suns “one of the finest black metal albums of 2008.”

Recently relocating to the east coast from the band’s original Phoenix base, ABIGAIL WILLIAMS have been committed to touring since their inception in 2005. To date, the band have toured alongside Enslaved, Dark Funeral, Vader, Goatwhore, Daath, Decrepit Birth. All Shall Perish, The Faceless, God Dethroned, Arch Enemy, and Emperor’s 2006 Reunion dates. Currently performing as a five-piece with Sorceron recently adding guitar to his duties, the band will now ready themselves for writing and recording of their second full-length album that they hope to release by year’s end.

Dommin to tour with HIM
2010-01-14
New York, NY: Los Angeles-based alternative rock band DOMMIN, whose Roadrunner debut Love is Gone is due in stores on February 2, are pleased to announce that they will be touring with H.I.M., We Are the Fallen and Drive A this Spring. The tour kicks off on March 26 in Philadelphia and will run through early May. Dommin will appear as the second of four bands on the bill, after Drive A and before We Are the Fallen.

Dommin’s darkly romantic brand of music focuses on things like heartbreak and love lost, set to lush, epic soundscapes. With Love is Gone, heartache has a new soundtrack.

Those who’ve already seen the band perform live last summer were impressed, with ABC News 12 in Flint/Detroit saying, “The band had undeniable charm on its side. And seeing that kind of passion and potential doesn’t happen every night.” Dommin have done various tours in the past year leading up to the album’s release. They’ve hit the road with a variety of acts, including Combichrist, Wednesday 13, select dates on Warped Tour, The Birthday Massacre. Lacuna Coil and The 69 Eyes. The band will have played over 100 shows before the record’s release date.

Outburn called the album “trimmed with synth pop tinkerings” while Ultimate Guitar said “There's certainly a The Crow-like darkness to Dommin, but it’s more inviting and welcoming than it is dangerous and distant,” and “The lyrics also explore topics like fractured relationships, love being a living hell, celebrating dark holidays and other damage that's inflicted on our fragile aortas. If anything, Kristofer Dommin is doing his best to be the voice of the brokenhearted. It's a topic that never goes cold in rock music and Dommin add their own heat to it.”

Fangoria raved that the album is “a blend of haunting and complex melodies” while Rock Scarz claimed Love is Gone “is a solid album covering the topics of love and pain and everything else that goes along with it. It has elements of goth, new wave, punk and metal but still manages to keep a unique sound.”

De Staat sign with Cool Green Recordings
2010-01-12
Cool Green Recordings (Mascot Recs sub-label) is proud to announce the signing of Dutch alternative rock outfit De Staat. The band hailing from Nijmegen, The Netherlands actually started as a solo project from guitarist/singer Torre Florim, who entirely recorded “Wait For Evolution” in his home. This debut album brought the band the break through in their home country as the single “The Fantastic Journey Of The Underground Man” hit the airways multiple times every day on the biggest radio and TV stations. “Wait For Evolution” debuted at nr 13 and remained in the Dutch album charts for half a year; an amazing result for a debut album. Now Cool Green Recordings will release "Wait For Evolution" in all countries outside Benelux starting with Europe with a March 29, 2010 release. USA will follow.

De Staat is known for their love of old roots music mixed with modern stoner-style repetitive riffing with a danceable twist to it. Live, the band went down a storm. They were named sensation of the biggest Dutch festivals Pinkpop and Lowlands and at the end of 2009 the band did a sold-out headline tour bringing them to all the big venues.

Ed van Zijl, label manager of Cool Green Recordings (alternative label of Mascot Records) who signed the band, expresses his excitement, saying “From the moment I heard De Staat I was blown away. Their style is recognizable and unique at the same time. It’s old and new coming together. At Lowlands festival 2009 I saw the band with Chris Goss (Masters Of Reality) and we were both amazed by De Staat. Their sound, the vibe and live show are amazing and the band simply has great songs.
De Staat have all the ingredients for international success.”

Frontman Torre Florim weighs in, exclaiming:
“We're excited as hell that we signed to Cool Green Recordings. We are doing really well in our home country The Netherlands and we are very excited to start taking over the rest of the world starting with Europe. We're ready to evolve.”

Soulfly to release new album in May
2010-01-11
New York, NY: Longtime Roadrunner Records recording artist SOULFLY, lead by metal deity Max Cavalera, have just completed a stint at Edge of the Earth Studios in Los Angeles, where they recorded their seventh album. Roadrunner will release album, titled Omen, on May 4. Logan Mader served as co-producer.

Omen follows up 2008’s Conquer, which enjoyed incredible critical reception. Alternative Press awarded the album 4.5 out of a possible 5 stars, deeming it “a furious, sonically adventurous metal disc…awesome” while Kerrang! hailed Conquer as “packed with enough invention, aggression and sheer quality tunes to make most other metal bands blush.”

In the true Soulfly style and tradition, the album will feature notable guest appearances. Dillinger Escape Plan’s Greg Puciato and Prong’s Tommy Victor will lend their voices to separate songs, while Max’s songs, Zyon and Igor, will also appear on special B-sides, making Omen an album that is truly all in the family!

Of the collaborations, Cavalera said “The first one is a song with Tommy Victor from Prong sharing vocals on a song called ‘Lethal Injection.’ The other is ‘Rise of the Fallen,’ with shared vocals from Greg Puciato, Dillinger Escape Plan's singer. I also recorded two B-sides with both of my sons playing drums. Igor Cavalera plays on Exel's ‘Your Life, My Life,’ and Zyon Cavalera plays on Sepultura's ‘Refuse/Resist’ cover.”

The album’s track listing is as follows:

“Bloodbath & Beyond”
“Rise of the Fallen”
“Counter Sabotage”
“Jeffrey Dahmer”
“Lethal Injection”
“Great Depression”
“Mega-Doom”
“Kingdom”
