Sammy Hagar sign with Loud & Proud
2008-09-17
NEW YORK, NY- September 16, 2008— Multi-Platinum Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar will release a new album on Loud & Proud Records on November 18th. Cosmic Universal Fashion marks the first official release for Loud & Proud, a Roadrunner Records imprint focusing on established artists. The title track and first single, “Cosmic Universal Fashion,” was written as an online collaboration between Hagar and a young Iraqi rock and roller by the name of Steven Lost. Released via Sammy’s website RedRocker.com and already a YouTube sensation, the video was produced in the same spirit as the classic Van Halen video for “Right Now, ” and strikes a timely chord with November’s upcoming Presidential election.

“We are light years ahead of where we thought we’d be in 1992, yet there will always be issues that continue to need our attention,” said Hagar. “With the upcoming election, global and national issues are at the forefront of everyone’s minds. ‘Cosmic Universal Fashion’ is not about supporting left or right, blue or red, but rather an attempt to appeal to people on a personal level to get involved.”

The track listing for Cosmic Universal Fashion is as follows:

1. Cosmic Universal Fashion
2. Psycho Vertigo
3. Peephole
4. LOUD
5. Fight For Your Right To Party
6. Switch On The Light
7. When The Sun Don’t Shine
8. 24365
9. I’m On A Roll
10. Dreams/Cabo

Loud & Proud President Tom Lipsky comments, “Great artists make great music. Sammy Hagar and Cosmic Universal Fashion prove that once again. I am thrilled that he is kicking off the partnership between Loud & Proud Records and Roadrunner Records.”

Globally known as the “Red Rocker” (after his anthem “Red” from 1977’s self-titled album), Hagar has led a storied career. From his first band Montrose through his years as frontman for Van Halen to his current status as solo artist with his band The Wabos, Hagar has seen over 60 million in record sales, won 2 Grammys, and along with Van Halen, won 3 MTV VMAs for “Right Now.” In addition to his musical endeavors, Hagar is the founder of world-renowned Cabo Wabo tequila and has several charities which he supports. In November, Hagar is set to perform two shows in St. Louis benefiting Blessings In A Backpack, a program whereby underprivileged children are sent home from school on a Friday with a backpack full of nutritious food, designed to keep them eating healthy throughout the weekend.

Britton sign with Z Records
2008-09-17
Z are proud to announce the signing of an agreement that finally allows the underground classic hard rock debut from Britton "Rock Hard" to finally be released on cd format. The remastered version features all ten original track plus ten bonus tracks!!!!

Originally release during 1988 via a CBS sub label, this album should have taken the band onto bigger things however music industry politics put a stop to that.

Britton were formed in 1985 by lead vocalist Michael Britton and lead guitarist Jim McMellen. They recruited Gary Holland (ex-Great White) on drums and bassist Greg Chaissson (who was later to join Jake E Lee's Badlands). Last to join the band was Patrick Schunk, who supported keyboards and rhythm guitar.

The band recorded demos at The Record Plant which were featured on "Ten Best of the West", a Rhino Records compilation of the 10 best yet unsigned bands in '87. At this time, Greg Chaisson had left and was replaced by Skip Frank. The Record Plant demo and the Rhino compilation album resulted in a deal with TSR Records, a sub to the CBS label. The band released their highly acclaimed LP "Rock Hard" in 1988, singles lifted from the album achieved extensive radio coverage all over the states, and the album received fine reviews from most respected rock magazines at the time.

2008, for the first time ever, we will have the chance to listen to 20 amazing Britton tracks on CD format supported with the original artwork, pictures, lyrics, comments by front men Mike and Jim of the band and a sound that is better than ever. Britton were definitely a band that deserved much more success than they gained back in the day when relatively many melodic rock bands sold gold and platinum in the US, but with this release their classic "Rock Hard" album will finally get its worthy reissue.

Defiance sign with Candlelight Records
2008-09-17
Candlelight Records today announces the signing of Oakland, California based Defiance. The band currently featuring vocalist Steev Esquivel (Skinlab), guitarist Jim Adams, bassist Mike Kaufmann and drummer Mark Hernandez (Vio-lence, Forbidden) has started early tracking of their new album at Trident Studios and Greendot Studios in East Bay, California. The currently untitled album is expected for Spring 2009 release.

Formed in 1985, Defiance have recorded three albums all for Roadrunner Records - Product of Society (1989, produced by Jeff Waters/Annihilator), Void Terra Firma (1990, produced by John Cuniberti), and Beyond Recognition (1992, produced by Rob Beaton). In 1994 the members put Defiance on hiatus allowing them opportunity to work on outside projects. In 2005 after requests from fans and new vigor on the part of band members, Defiance reunited. In an interview with popular portal Metal-Temple.com Mike Kaufmann reveals, "We have received lots of messages from fans who have said they would love to hear some new Defiance. We always felt the band broke up too early so we plan to use this opportunity to pick up where we left off."

Defiance along with their fellow mosh pit peers of the 80's (Testament, Exodus, Death Angel) contributed to the rise and immense popularity of thrash metal for over a decade. In recent years with the reformations of many of the classic bands, fans have been given opportunity to re-embrace the aggressive sound of the American-flavor of the genre.

Defiance plan to finish recording of their Candlelight debut by year's end. The band expects to announce touring plans in the early part of 2009.

The Spacebunker is launched in Oslo
2008-09-16
Sculptor René M. Hamel, better known as Spacebrain, and famed for his designs for bands such as MAYHEM and RED HARVEST, as well as for Maniac’s SKITLIV, the band for which Hamel plays bass, has converted his studio into a music and function venue, which he has called “The Spacebunker”. Information and pictures of the Spacebunker can be found on MySpace at www.myspace.com/spacebunker.

The Spacebunker covers an area of 300 square meters and has a stage that is much larger than average for this type of venue. Located in Grunerløkka district of Oslo, Norway, the venue is unique in that Spacebrain has displayed his sculptures and stage props round the walls and raised areas allowing fans to get close to some of the items that have now become as legendary as the bands that used them on stage.

Hamel did a “trial run” for the venue during Oslo’s Inferno Festival this year, when he hosted a special free event with performances by SHINING and SKITLIV, and has held a few more events since then. The Sculptor commented, “The first gig was something else. We had never done anything here before, and the heating broke down, so it was freezing cold. But the audience reaction was incredible despite the cold. Some were saying that they enjoyed it more than the official events, because of the atmosphere and because of being able to wander round and meet various musicians and get close to the sculptures themselves. The ashtrays were particularly popular, they were all my designs, and I don’t think we had one left by the time we all went home that day!

“It really encouraged me to develop the venue further though. The acoustics are excellent, and I’ve upgraded the bar and facilities, and of course fixed the heating, and the bands appreciate the fact that they have a huge stage area. I also decided to offer the Spacebunker for corporate events, parties etc., which might sound like a strange mix with its use as a venue for bands, but we’ve found that the sculptures give the companies a more interesting setting for their clients than the usual bland hotel venues”.

ARKAEA features Fear Factory drummer Raymond Herrera and guitar player Christian Olde Wolbers, along with Threat Signal singer Jon Howard.

We've progressed so much as a band in the past year, molding our musical styles together. I feel we've created something very original that I can be proud of for the rest of my life. I can’t wait to see where this ride is headed.”

KOCH Records VP of Metal Scott Givens weighs in, "I’m really pleased to be working again with Raymond and Christian on such an amazing project and that they have chosen KOCH to be its home. Therion announce new band members
2008-09-13
Therion band leader Christofer Johnsson has issued the following update via his Myspace blog:

So, the only Therion concert before 2010 (September 6, 2008 at Plock Air Festival - Poland) is drawing near and I suppose you guys are curious of who's gonna be on stage (well, some of you already figured it out - I hate internet).

The new man behind the drums is called Johan Kullberg and he used to play in Lions Share, the band that Andy "The Bald Guy" Engberg used to be the singer of. Great all round drummer that both plays all the stuff from the previous drummers really well and add his own personal style to it in a tasteful way.

He was recommended by Thomas Vikström the day after the decision of the other members parting was announced so I didn't even get the chance to catch my breath before there was already a new drummer in house. As if that wasn't enough. When me and Thomas spoke on the phone, I said something about "Bob Daisley would be the perfect bassplayer" just to give a clue of what type of guy I I would have in mind when I eventually get around serching or one. Thomas then replied replied "Oh, but then it's Nalle Påhlsson you're looking for! He's the swedish Bob Daisley!". So I gave the man a ring and before I even had time to sit down and reflect about things, I already had a new rythm section into the band. But not just a rythm section - these guys have been playing together for over 10 years, so they're already super tight and groove like hell. When we rehearsed the first time it felt pretty much like before, it sounded like there was no interruption with member change at all. Kind of the same feeling I had when Petter joined the band back in 2004, it just clicked immediatly. I can't wait to make the next album with these guys! :)

Meltdown change name
2008-09-12
Los Angeles-based old school Thrash Metal band MELTDOWN decided to change their name due to possible legal issues. The thrashing four-piece picked MANTIC RITUAL to be their name from now on. Due to the change of names several more changes such as logo and artwork are coming right up why the release of their much anticipated debut album, "Executioner", unfortunately has to be pushed once more. Label and band are aiming for an early 2009 release.
The band on the subject of changing names: "We just wanted to let you all know that we’ve recently decided to change the band name to MANTIC RITUAL. Though we love the name Meltdown, we feel this is a necessary step for us to avoid confusion with the other bands out there using the MELTDOWN name. We feel that now is the appropriate time to make the change as our debut album is forthcoming on Nuclear Blast and we plan to tour as much as humanly possible in support of the release. There are no other changes within the band besides the name of the band. So when you see MANTIC RITUAL on flyers, online, or at your local CD store, just remember that it’s us doing what we’ve always been doing. As always thanks for your support and see you soon. Adam, Ben, Dan & Jeff"

Mauser explains decision to leave Vader
2008-09-12
Mauser, guitarist of goth metal newcomers UNSUN, has posted the following statement regarding his departure from Polish death metal legend Vader:

“I would like to confirm the news about my departure from Vader and I would also like to explain the reasons for my decision, so that I can clear out all misconceptions and misinterpretations about it.

For the past six months I have been very busy with my new band - UNSUN and I haven't been able to fulfil my duties in both of the bands at the same time. I knew this was coming and I knew I would end up in a situation where I would have to decide if I should leave Vader or not. The upcoming release of my new record with UNSUN – “The End OF Life” as well as very intensive promotion of the album made me realize that the moment to leave has come.

Therefore I decided to focus entirely on UNSUN and nothing else. I have also felt the need to create something entirely new musically, something different than what I have done in the past. I would like to thank all Vader fans for the support you gave me during our shows, because these were really wonderful moments full of indescribable energy. I hope you can all understand my decision for choosing my own path because it is a virtue we all always strive for... No one can tell us what music to listen to, no one can keep us from playing the music that we love... This is what I will always fight for!
// Greetings , Mauser”

Century Media
Earth Crisis sign with Century Media
2008-09-12
One of the most anticipated and talked about reunions was without a doubt the reformation of EARTH CRISIS, which was followed by a massive North American tour as well as a number of European shows mounting in a truly triumphant return. The pioneers of the hardcore, straightedge movement have now officially made the decision to carry on with the band fulltime and are proud to announce a new worldwide deal with Century Media Records.

EARTH CRISIS have crafted their most angst ridden and unrelenting offering of their career and this effort is going to serve as a much needed wake up call to the masses. The group will self produce the album and are set to begin tracking next month. The acclaimed Tue Madsen (Sick Of It All, Dark Tranquillity, The Haunted) will handle mixing and mastering duties.

Scott Crouse (guitar) further comments:
“We are very excited to begin tracking our new record and even more excited that it will be released by Century Media. We have been working hard over the last year preparing new material and are scheduled to enter the studio in October. We will be producing this one ourselves and are extremely excited to have Tue Madsen mixing! The new songs are brutal and Century Media is the perfect label to handle them.”

EARTH CRISIS’ chugging riffs and barked declarations served as the mouthpiece of the militant vegan, straight-edge movement throughout the '90s, detailing the ideas of animal and human liberation, drug-free living, and personal empowerment through hardcore song. This movement spawned activists who took the law into their own hands, burning down fur farms and freeing animals directly. Their vicious debut EP, “Firestorm”, was a landmark release for the hardcore scene that combined staccato, solo-free metal with barking, political, and militant vocals. The lyrics centered around the dangers of drug abuse and bringing “violence against violence” to drug dealers and those who would abuse animals: “a firestorm to purify”.

Major media outlets such as CNN, CBS and MTV soon started covering EARTH CRISIS and vegan, straight-edge in general. In 1996, the band released their second full-length album, “Gomorrah’s Season Ends”, a polished and decidedly more metallic affair that produced even more anthems that became singalong worthy staples of their live performances. This exposed the band to a whole new mainstream audience.

In 2009, EARTH CRISIS prepares to unleash a firestorm of epic proportions proving that their message is more viable than ever.

Selfmadegod sign distribution deal
2008-09-10
Formed in 2001, Selfmadegod Records out of Poland has finally launched a North American webstore for all the maniacs who have been desperately seeking its products in the United States. They now can order recent releases at www.selfmadegod-usa.com.

More than that, Selfmadegod has inked a long-awaited agreement for exclusive distribution in North America. From now on, thanks to Lumberjack Mordam Music Group, you can get our back catalog and newest products in American record stores, chain stores and online sources such as Best Buy and Hot
Topic.

Selfmadegod Records has consistently become one of the underground's most promising, forward-looking, independent record labels. Delivering quality releases from an array of artists that span the genres of grindcore, hardcore, metal, experimental or punk, the label has steadily grown throughout the years, gaining a worldwide reputation for strong music.

Metalreview.com: "The recent pack from Selfmadegod Records illustrates that grindcore doesn't have to undergo an overhaul to be appealing and satisfying. That is, the bands on Selfmadegod are not reinventing the subgenre, but perhaps most importantly, their releases do test positive for competence and vivacity."

DigitalMetal.com: "If you are a fan of grindcore and have not been checking the recent releases on Selfmadegod Records, you are not only doing your ears a disservice, but the international grindcore scene as well. This ever-growing Polish outfit has been responsible for unearthing some of the most deadly acts, not only in their Eastern European backyard, but around the world as well. With up-and-coming grinders like the mighty Antigama, Third Degree and Catheter releasing records on a label that has also hosted such underground legends as Agathocles and Unholy Grave, Selfmadegod has become a home to grindcore that is vicious and chaotic and often cleverly innovative at the same time."

Deicide announce touring guitarist
2008-09-10
Starting with this weekend's show in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, ORDER OF ENNEAD guitarist, Kevin Quirion will join Glen Benton, Steve Asheim and Jack Owen to be a touring guitarist with the legendary death metal innovators, DEICIDE.

Let the man himself, Kevin Quirion fill you in on the details:

"DEICIDE needed a guitarist and I happened to be standing right there. I'll be doing the Ft. Lauderdale show Sept 13th, 4 dates in Italy (Sept 18-21) and whatever else comes up. This will tide me over until ORDER OF ENNEAD starts their touring cycle, which we hope to be very significant. Steve Asheim plays in both bands and Jack Owen will be playing guitar with ORDER OF ENNEAD so there will be no conflict of scheduling."

Of course, it's not a case of all work and no play for DEICIDE's newfound touring guitarist. It's been a big honor for Quirion thus far:

"I've been listening to DEICIDE since 1990 so it's a real pleasure jamming with them. I've learned 19 songs over the last couple weeks and rehearsing with the guys 3 times a week and everything is sounding tight and massive."

Finally Quirion has a short message for all DECIDE and ORDER OF ENNEAD fanatics worldwide:

"I'll see everyone on the road one way or the other."
