All Shall Perish hit the charts
2011-08-11
Northern California extreme metal outfit ALL SHALL PERISH have achieved their first German chart entry ever with their new brutal masterpiece “This Is Where It Ends“. A spot landing on rank 100 in the first week of the album's release!

Guitarist Ben Orum states: “We are beyond thrilled to have broken through the top 100 charts in Germany! Expect us to be there very soon performing the new material.“

Falkenbach sign with Prophecy Productions
2011-08-05
When talking about the origins of heathen Metal from Germany, one name invariably is mentioned: Falkenbach. Going for over twenty years, this project by Vratyas Vakyas is considered as a trailblazer and prime mover of a musical style that perfectly combines epic heroism and Germanic mythology, Norse-tinged folklore and metallic aggression – and all that far beyond the well-worn clichés of the so-called "Pagan Metal scene."
Albums such as "... en their medh riki fara ..." and "... magni blandinn ok megintiri ..." are considered classics of pagan Metal, but Vratyas Vakyas' later records – e.g. "Tiurida" which was released early this year – just as much proved the strength and conviction behind his musical vision.

Hence, we are very proud to announce that Prophecy Productions and Falkenbach agreed upon a long-term partnership and that from now on, Prophecy are going to lend Vratyas Vakyas their support in the realisation of his vision. The musician has this to say about the signing of the contract: "As a label, Prophecy stands for qualities and ideals that are very important for me personally and for Falkenbach. After being in touch with Martin Koller for more than 15 years, I am particularly happy that Prophecy and Falkenbach are going to travel together from now on. At the moment, we are busy preparing the next album, and I am really looking forward to our co-operation."

Saxon to release new album
2011-08-05
One of the leading bands of the 'New Wave of British Heavy Metal' movement, Saxon, is about to hit the U.S. shores hard once more.
On September 27th, Saxon will release their 19th studio album overall, 'Call to Arms' (via UDR Music/EMI), and starting the following day, will launch a Stateside tour.
And as evidenced by such ass-kickers as "Hammer of the Gods" and "Call to Arms," the group hasn't lost their grip on composing hard-hitting yet anthemic heavy metal with their latest offering.

Comprised of members Biff Byford (vocals), Doug Scarratt (guitar), Paul Quinn (guitar), Nibbs Carter (bass), Nigel Glockler (drums), Saxon is responsible for penning some of the 1980's most enduring metal anthems, including "Wheels of Steel," "Strong Arm of the Law," "Motorcycle Man," "Princess of the Night," and "Never Surrender," and along with the likes of Iron Maiden and Def Leppard, helped breath life back into a metal scene that many had left for dead at the time.

It's been 35 years since Saxon was originally up and running, and the group can still easily hold their own with the headbanging competition.
“It’s important to keep one foot in the past and one foot very much in the present,” says Byford. “At some points in your life, whether you’re younger or older, you do have these wonderful periods of ‘state of graceness’ where everyone likes everything you write. But you can’t keep being your own tribute band, you have to try and write great new songs, and you have to try to appeal to a younger audience. Saxon has been successfully doing that for the last decade, and the result is we still have our old fan base but we also have a whole new, younger one too.”

Saxon's latest video clip, for the song "Call to Arms," will be premiered this Friday, August 5th at noon EST on America Online Noisecreep.
And hardcore Saxon fans will surely be interested in tracking down the "Digipack" version of 'Call to Arms,' as it includes a glorious bonus – a free seven-track CD, 'Live at Donington 1980.'

Soon, U.S. fans will be able to recapture "The Power and the Glory" of Saxon all over again – with the release of 'Call to Arms,' and on a concert stage near you.

Absu album details revealed
2011-08-05
Candlelight Records recently confirmed October 4th as the North American release date for ABSU’s new album titled Abzu. As previously announced, the album is part two of a planned trilogy of recordings from the Dallas-based mythological occult metal band. Mixed by J.T. Longoria (King Diamond/Solitude Aeternus), the album features the original works of Polish artist Zbigniew Bielak (Watain, Behemoth, Destroyer 666, Vader).

Recorded at Nomad Recording Studios in Carrollton , Texas , Abzu finds drummer/vocalist Proscriptor and bassist/vocalist Ezezu sharing equal vocal duties and debuts the skills of new guitarist Vis Crom. Proscriptor comments, “Abzu is the first studio release to feature a co-vocalist alongside myself since our third album, The Third Storm of Cythraul. Ezezu’s vocal presentation is beyond superlative and I am overly pleased with his execution and delivery. The songwriting undertakings were equally distributed between both Ezezu and Vis Crom and I must admit it brings an admirable multiplicity to the album as a whole. The last song on the album, “A Song For Ea,” was composed in six movements, as it brought the entire band together as an equivalent songwriting team. Vis Crom has definitely proven to be ABSU’s most proficient guitarist in the history of the band.”

Writing began on Abzu last autumn as Proscriptor notes, “This album has not only been the most challenging in ABSU’s discography, but the quickest paced – composition and arrangement wise. The current line-up is scattered all across the United States , so the album was physically written utilizing internet file sharing. We even rehearsed, at times, while communicating via cell phones. Lyrically, the album descends deeper into Enki's lower world as well Thelemic and Enochian Magic(k) Systems. My lyrical architecture is extremely convoluted, so I decided to create a generalized synopsis explaining the themes behind each song. I feel these are my best poems since 2001’s Tara .”

Abzu has benefited from the unity of the band despite limited face-to-face rehearsal time. In fact only two proper rehearsals were had; one preparing for the band’s dates with Immortal earlier this year. The six-date showcase tour was the first live American dates for the band since their headline tour in June of 2009. Proscriptor confirms, “We rehearsed one week prior to the tour supporting Immortal and exactly one week after in preparation for the studio experience. I can honestly say this is the first time ABSU has rehearsed for only one week, as an entire unit, before entering the studio.”

ABSU recently returned from Finland where they performed at the Hammer Open Air Festival. "For the first time in history, we presented a complete and unabridged version of ABSU’s second album, The Sun of Tiphareth,” shares Vis Crom of the performance. “Now, we prepare with eagerness to do the same at upcoming performances in Greece and The Netherlands. The crowds at Party San and Brutal Assault can expect a different, but unique live set. After that, our sights are set on North American abyss.”

ABSU came to prominence with the release of their 1993 debut, Barathrum: V.I.T.R.I.O.L. Each album saw continual expansion of the band’s now highly regarded artistic vision and international fanbase. It was with 2001’s Tara that the band truly arrived. The album reached top lists of countless magazines worldwide. Years, however, would pass before any new material would be recorded. In late 2007, the band finally announced their re-awakening. Now teamed with London-based Candlelight Records, the band would take nearly sixteen months writing/recording their sixth album. Absu, featuring contributions from members of King Diamond, Mayhem, Melechesh, Firstborn and Enthroned, was released early 2009.

Abzu Track Listing:
1. Earth Ripper
2. Circles of the Oath
3. Abraxas Connexus
4. Skrying in the Spirit Vision
5. Ontologically, It Became Time & Space
6. A Song for Ea including:
a. E-A
b. A Myriad of Portals
c. Third Tablet
d. Warren of Imhullu
e. The Waters - The Denizens
f. E-A (Reprise)

Upcoming ABSU Festival Performances:

8/12/2011 Party San Open Air – Schlotheim , Germany
8/13/2011 Brutal Assault Open Air – Jaromer , Czech Republic
9/10/2011 An Club – Athens , Greece (w/ZEMIAL)
10/29/2011 Aurora Infernalis Festival - Driel , Netherlands

Iced Earth album details revealed
2011-08-05
GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN (USA) – Although “Dystopia”, Iced Earth’s 10th studio offering, is not a concept album, founder Jon Schaffer admits there are unifying themes to several of the songs – and even an appearance by band mascot “Set Abominae.”

“I’ve always been fascinated by the darker side of life,” Schaffer said during a break from master tracking Iced Earth’s forthcoming album. “Movies like Metropolis, Brazil, and The Matrix resonate with me. The same for albums like 2112, The Wall, and of course Operation:Mindcrime. Their images of a soulless, repressive society stuck with me over the years. It must be the sci-fi fan in me."

In much the same way “Horror Show” (Iced Earth’s tribute to classic characters from literature and movies) was born, Schaffer said his interest in dystopian themes in music and movies led him to try his hand at that genre as well – even paying homage on the new album to the movies Dark City, V For Vendetta, and Soylent Green. The end result is ICED EARTH meets the nightmarish offspring of Brave New World and Blade Runner.

Of special interest to long-time fans are two songs on “Dystopia” (the title track and “Tragedy and Triumph”) that feature the return of the “Something Wicked” storyline and “Set Abominae” – who, when last seen in “The Crucible of Man” [2008], had taken his position as ruler of the world.

“The opening song is a step back timeline-wise from the ‘Come What May’ track,” said Schaffer. “‘Come What May’ [the last track on “Crucible”] sets the scenario that it’s up to us and the decisions we make that will determine the future of the human race. These two songs [on “Dystopia”] take place at a time when people are in highly controlled prison-like city states, and their eventual emancipation in the closer, ‘Tragedy and Triumph’.”

In an uncanny case of art imitating life, Schaffer said Set Abominae fit perfectly with the general theme of “Dystopia”. “I remember it hit me like a ton of bricks in ’97, the whole Something Wicked story did,” Schaffer said. “I thought, ‘Man, this is going to be so cool.’ Many years later, we were on tour for Crucible and we were doing an interview over in Eastern Europe. A buddy of mine said, ‘You know, Jon, this whole Something Wicked thing could be true.’ I thought about it a moment and said, ‘Well, I don’t know about that. But there are some creepy parallels in contemporary life.’”

“So as I was thinking about all of the great movies, albums, and books with dystopian themes, I remembered that conversation and it occurred to me that the Something Wicked story could continue in a few tracks here very nicely,” Schaffer said.

Schaffer admits the recording of “Dystopia” has been especially challenging because of the band’s summer festival gigs requiring him to criss-cross the ocean numerous times.

Despite the challenges, Schaffer says working with new vocalist Stu Block is “a pleasure.”

“You just can’t ask for a better attitude,” said Schaffer. “Stu is so excited to be here. He brings a youthful exuberance to the band, which is a lot of fun. And he’s a real dude. He’s down to earth, and willing to try anything that Jim [Morris, co-producer, engineer] or I throw at him. He’s stepping into the shoes in a very natural way.”

Schaffer continues: “We’re opening up a part of his voice and a style of singing that he didn’t even really know he had. We’re exploring this whole new range. And we’re just getting started. I believe Stu will continue to grow – and has the potential to grow – into one of the greats, one of the guys that will go down in metal history. If he stays on this course, with the attitude that he has, his willingness to learn, and his passion, he’s destined for really great things. I firmly believe that.”

Song titles on “Dystopia” include:
Dystopia
Anthem
Days of Rage
Soylent Green
V
Boiling Point
Anguish of Youth
Iron Will
Dark City
End of Innocence
Equilibrium
Tragedy and Triumph

“Dystopia” is scheduled for release in Europe on October 17th, and in the U.S. on October 18th both via Century Media. Two bonus tracks are also being recorded for inclusion on special editions of the album.

The release of “Dystopia” will be followed by the most extensive world tour Iced Earth has ever undertaken. The European leg of the 2011-2012 World Dystopia Tour begins October 30th in Bochum, Germany. See below for the dates!

Schaffer formed Iced Earth in Tampa, Florida, in 1984. Since then, he has released 9 studio albums, one live album, two compilations, three boxed sets, and several DVDs -- the most recent of which is “Festivals of the Wicked”. With worldwide sales in the millions, ICED EARTH has earned a seat in the pantheon of America’s most successful heavy-metal bands.

Enemy Reign announce new vocalist
2011-08-05
After a brief hiatus, Denver death metallers ENEMY REIGN are pleased to welcome new vocalist, Stevie Boiser, to the fold. Boiser replaces former throat , Sherwood Webber (Skinless), who fled the band amicably last year following a European tour , which included a slot on the Neurotic Deathfest. No stranger to the scene, Boiser comes from Calculating Geonocide and has made several fill-in appearances for various bands including Vale Of Pnath.

Commented Boiser on joining the ruckus: "I'm stoked to be working with such an awesome bunch of dudes. This is definitely the most in-your-face band I've ever been in, and the new material is coming along really well! I know I've got some pretty big shoes to fill but I'm confident I can do the job, and I intend to give this band my all. I'm excited to get out and show people exactly what we are capable of. Keep your eyes and ears open, because this is only the beginning."

ENEMY REIGN released their critically-lauded Means To A Dead End EP in Europe through Neurotic Records last year. The EP was recorded by Dave Otero at Flatline Audio (Cephalic Carnage, Martriden, Cobalt et al) in 2008. The band is currently plotting their upcoming new full-length, to be recorded sometime this Fall.

Axemaster reform with new vocalist
2011-08-05
After a short hiatus Ohio based Heavy Metal band Axemaster has officially reformed and has begun songwriting for the next Axemaster release. Original Axemaster members Joe Sims and Brian Henderson have returned to the band and they have also recruited a new Vocalist in Tony Webster (Archetype, ex-Mo Rage) for the upcoming release. Founding member and guitar player Joe Sims had this to say:

"I couldn't be happier with how things have turned out and being back as Axemaster. I've been in a few bands over the last 20 years but Axemaster has always been the one I've been known for and is by far my favorite. I'm actually really glad that Inner Terror didn't go under the name Axemaster because the music we did on that CD just wasn't "axemaster-like" enough, not like the stuff we're doing now. This is without a doubt the best writing I've ever done and with all the talent that Tony and Brian bring to the table I think this CD is gonna be something special!!!!"

Co founding member and drummer Brian Henderson states:

"I feel this is the most intense music Joe has put together and will be the biggest challenge ever for me to record my parts. Also I am looking forward to working with Tony to put a totally different and much needed voice in the mix. This CD will rock!!"

Axemaster is working on an upcoming as of yet untitled album and are currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on the songs for the upcoming album. The band is currently writing 15 songs for the upcoming full length.

New Vocalist Tony Webster states:

"This is a great band with a very long history in the metal scene. I had never really heard of Axemaster until Joe contacted me through the internet and asked if I would be interested in singing with them. After he sent me some of the demos for the new album I checked out the music and really liked it. So I decided to take on another band aside from Archetype and have started writing songs with them. It sounds like old school thrash metal mixed with some doom elements. We have demoed around 15 songs so far and they are turning out awesome! This is going to be the best album the band has ever done musically and working with these guys has been great so far!"

Megaton Leviathan tour dates
2011-08-05
Portland, Oregon doom gazers, MEGATON LEVIATHAN, will embark upon a two-week East Coast tour with headliners Wolves In The Throne Room. Known for their elaborate stage productions and stunning live visuals, MEGATON LEVIATHAN takes its listeners on a ritualistic journey that transcends far beyond the boundaries of rock ‘n’ roll. The Celestial Lineage tour is set to commence on September 14, 2011 in Washing D.C., and will run in conjunction to the re-release of the band’s 2009 self-titled demo EP, now available on limited-edition vinyl through the band’s own Volatile Rock Records. Offering up 35-minutes of raw, ethereal riffing and postrock atmosphere, the remastered demo is limited to 500 copies.

Said the band in a collective statement: “We are very excited to announce that we will be joining our good friends, Wolves In The Throne Room, on a two-week leg of their upcoming North American Tour in support of their new album, Celestial Lineage. It is especially thrilling because this tour has been booked DIY and we will be playing in underground and off-the-beaten-path spaces. This is very much in keeping with the way we wish to tour and share our vision. Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces -- particularly the folks at the Little Hamilton in Nashville, and all you cats in Austin and New Orleans -- and covering some new ground. Make sure to keep an eye on wittr.com for venue listings and directions.”

2011-08-05
Finnish Metal wolves SONATA ARCTICA are howling again – namely in the form of a new live DVD! “Live In Finland“ shows the full concert which was played on the 15th of April 2011 in Club Teatria in Oulu, Finland. Apart from timeless classics à la ´Full Moon´ or ´Letter To Dana´, various tracks of the current album “The Days Of Grays“ have found their way into the setlist, thus on the DVD as well. This heady mixture of old and new compositions of SONATA ARCTICA is supplemented by a bonus DVD on which four recorded tracks of the very own SONATA ARCTICA festival can be found, that took place on the 8th of August 2009 in Kemi. Furthermore, the viewer can enjoy the music videos of `Don’t Say A Word’, ´Paid In Full´ and ´Flag In The Ground´ as well as a photo galery and some making of’s that document the DVD’s creation. The enclosed bonus CD with eight audio recordings of the festival concert puts the final touches on this release, so that “Live In Finland“ will make each and every SONATA ARCTICA fan cry tears of joy.

Keyboarder Henrik Klingenberg states: „It's been a very hot summer here in Finland, and while most people headed to the beach, we've been working our asses off editing and compiling our new DVD. This time around we wanted to give you a show from our homecountry Finland. The main show was filmed at the Teatria club in Oulu, Finland, last April. It showcases Sonata Arctica towards the end of the Days of Grays World Tour which started back in 2009. We played a total of over 180 shows in almost 40 countries during the tour. This will be a 2-DVD release with lots of bonuses, we'll have tour documentaries, making of's as well as music videos and bonus songs from our very own Sonata Arctica Open Air festival, held in our hometown, Kemi in August 2009. Wether you missed us or checked us out during this world tour, this DVD will be the complete guide to what we've been up to these past two years. I'm sure you all will enjoy watching this DVD as much as we’ve enjoyed making it. The Days of Grays World Tour has been absolutely fantastic and I'm very happy that we’ve managed to capture all the ups and downs on film. You'll know what I’m talking about when we get this monster package out!“

Convince yourselves! Cutoff date is the 28th of October 2011. Autumn will be colorful – thanks to SONATA ARCTICA!

Rose Funeral reveal album title
2011-08-05
Rose Funeral have launched the first track from their forthcoming album, Gates of Punishment. Beyond the Entombed can be heard now at metalblade.com/rosefuneral. The album can also be pre-ordered at iTunes. The physical pre-order with an exclusive t-shirt will be available shortly.

Gates of Punishment is a fitting progression of the band's dark and foreboding sound. Guest vocal appearances from Kate Alexander and Steve Tucker (Morbid Angel) add to the dark atmosphere that is created throughout the album. Seven string guitars tuned to drop A, haunting melodies, insane blasts and enough groove to keep heads banging will make this one of the heaviest releases of 2011.

Vocalist/guitarist Ryan Gardner adds, "We had the greatest time recording Gates of Punishment. It is definitely a HUGE step for Rose Funeral. I can honestly say this album just crushes any release we have done. We are looking to turn heads and drop jaws with this album. Gates of Punishment is filled with intense blasts, fast paced solos, melodic harmonies, dark chords, pissed off vocals, and harsh breakdowns. This is the sound i have been searching for with Rose Funeral, and I couldn't be happier. All I can say is that with the guys I have, it will be a huge climb in sound every album from now on."

Gates of Punishment track listing:
1. Legions of Ruination
2. Grotesque Mutilation
3. Beyond the Entombed
4. False Divine (feat. Steve Tucker)
5. Arise Infernal Existence
6. Malignant Amour (feat. Kate Alexander)
7. A Recreant Canticle
8. The Desolate Form
9. Entercism
10. Amidst Gehenna
11. Gates of Punishment

Throne of Katarsis to release new album
2011-08-05
October the 24th a new Black Metal opus sees the darkness of the world. Cold, raw, and with the bizarre aura of an everlasting funeral, Throne Of Katarsis delivers their requiem in honor of the final darkness. During three long nights the seven rites of this album was recorded. The séance was done in darkness and with poisoned minds, and with a dedication closer to a possession rather than anything else. All instruments and vocal were recorded live in the studio, in order to capture the aura the band creates during their convocations. A couple of guitar leads were added to the mix, and also chuch organ - recorded at nighttime at a local church during a highly blasfemic ceremony.
The band now consists of four individuals, while earlier being a demonic duo for seven years. The full line up is now: Infamroth (voice, guitar and church organ), Skinndød (guitar), Sanrabb (bass) and Vardalv (drums).

The album title “Ved Graven” can be translated to “At the Grave”, and is by far the darkest material written by the band to this date. To complete the vision Njard drawed the cover art, and Stein Sund assisted the mixing and mastering of the album. This is the their third studio album, and continues the march towards the funeral.

“Ved Graven” tracklist:
Profetens Siste Vandring
Helvete Kaller
Av Dypets Kulde
The Holy Remains The Weak
Mesterens Tilbakekomst
Åpne Alle Sår
The Ultimate Shrine
